The National Index of Civil Construction (SINAPI) recorded a change of 0.23% in August, and was 0.35% below the 0.58% recorded in July. The Northeast recorded the biggest monthly change among the Major Regions, 0.56%, as a result of the hike of construction material in six states, and of salary adjustments, mainly in Ceará.

“The change recorded in August, 0.23%, results from the decreases recorded in both material and workforce”, says Augusto Oliveira, researcher from the IBGE. According to him, the share of the index relative to workforce was lower than in July:

“The comparison with August in the previous month shows a quantitative increase in the number of collective agreements established. As a result, the share of workforce, very significant to the index, is not as representative as it was in July”.

Regional costs, by square meter, were; R$ 1,052.73 (North); R$ 978.98 (Northeast); R$ 1,103.71 (Southeast); R$ 1,098.62 (South) and R$ 1,058.04 (Central West).
