Business tourism takes off in June, rises up services sector

Tourism activities stood out in the services sector in June, influencing the 1.3% increase over May. "Due to business tourism, the activities of housing and air transportation increased this month, which usually benefit São Paulo and the Federal District", explains Roberto Saldanha, manager of the Monthly Survey of Services.
Concerning the tourism activities in the regions, São Paulo registered the highest change in June over May (4.0%), followed by Rio Grande do Sul (3.9%) and Goiás (3.2%). Comparing this group with June 2016, the highlights were Goiás (15.0%), Pernambuco (7.9%) and Santa Catarina (5.6%).
However, the researcher warned that this is an activity with a lot of highs and lows. "Tourism is a volatile sector, whose prices change according to the season, school holidays, holidays, major events and other factors. Business travel is slightly more stable than tourism travel, but the sector as a whole has a high volume of activities", concluded Saldanha.
