Legal and advertisement services grow in May, but services sector remains stable

According to the Monthly Survey of Services - PMS, recently released, legal and advertisement services were the main responsible for the growth of 2.4% in the activity of professional, administrative and complementary services between April and May. Despite the improvement, this activity still drops 5.7% compared with May 2016.
Having registered -0.3%, information and communication services exerted a downward pressure in May. As it recorded 0.1% between April and May, the services sector as a whole remained stable this month. According to the manager of the survey, Roberto Saldanha, "the 0.1% change pointed out stability, as it does not have any statistical relevance."
The cumulative rate in 12 months of May (-4.7%) could mean a reversal in the downward trend of the services sector. "The sector dropped less in May, which may be a signal of recovery, though we can not assure that it is a recovery, as we need to check the next months", explained Roberto Saldanha.
