The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) successfully completed the Public Integrity Advisory process conducted by the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU) through the Secretariat of Public Integrity (SIP), achieving 100% of the Public Integrity Maturity Model (MMIP) criteria and achieving maturity level 3—the highest level evaluated to date.
The MMIP was developed to fill gaps in public integrity management, offering clear guidelines on how to promote ethical conduct, prevent irregularities, and strengthen an organizational culture focused on the public interest.
This achievement places the IBGE among the few Brazilian public institutions to have achieved this status, evidencing its commitment to ethics, transparency and the offer of public value to society. The result is the fruit of a strategic advisory project initiated by the CGU in March, aiming to support the units of the Integrity, Transparency and Access to Information System (SITAI) in the implementation of the main MMIP processes.
Marcio Pochmann, president of the IBGE, emphasizes the importance of this achievement: "For the IBGE, institutional integrity corresponds to the quality of acting with honesty, ethics, and consistency from words to actions. One of the main pillars of good governance is the prevention of possible deviations from the principles, standards, and practices that promote a transparent, ethical, and upright environment. Ultimately, it is the guide by which conduct remains aligned with the public interest and the improvement of management at Brazil's biggest survey institution."
According to Pedro Mutti de Lima, a federal auditor in charge of the advisory team, "the effort made within the Institute to expand the topic of integrity and ensure that the MMIP items assessed are fully addressed is evident. We hope that this process will help the institution evolve daily towards a more honest public administration focused on delivering public value to society."
IBGE's performance reflects a consistent history of institutional improvement, with investments in training, internal process reviews, and employee engagement in integrity practices.
"This result is a consequence of the collective effort made by all IBGE integrity departments in the pursuit of excellence. It is a daily process and would not have been possible without unity and partnership. Together, we are stronger," said Willyam Silva, IBGE Integrity Manager and focal point in the Advisory process within the CGU.
This achievement reinforces the Institute's role as a national benchmark for good integrity practices and as an active agent in to build more honest and trustworthy public administration.
