The IBGE went to the field to carry out the 2nd Pilot Test of the 12th Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture. In the last two weeks, enumerators and observers from other institutions visited traditional communities and establishments in six Brazilian municipalities to test the data collection equipment and the questionnaire that will be applied to producers. Accompanying this evaluation stage, the IBGE´s Communication team prepared a special IBGE Podcast series with all the details of this survey, essential to portray one of the most important sectors of the Brazilian economy.
In the first episode, we invited the coordinator of the Census of Agriculture, Vando da Paz Nascimento, for a conversation about the scope of the operation. Held every 10 years, it addresses both data on production specifically and information related to establishments, producer profiles, land use, environmental conditions, among others. Altogether, there are 48 thematic blocks, which also include gender issues and even issues related to family succession. "The Census of Agriculture meets the demand for information not only from an economic point of view, but also the social impact on the families that carry out this production," highlights the coordinator.
The 12th Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture is expected to mobilize almost 40 thousand temporary professionals, distributed across all the Federation Units, which requires highly complex planning and logistics actions. "The Census is also carried out in interaction with society. You have to activate the actors, identify cooperatives and partner entities that can collaborate with the survey," adds the coordinator.
Another important front of preparation is testing the electronic devices used in data collection and the questionnaire itself. To achieve this, the schedule foresees two stages of pilot tests (held in December 2025 and May 2026), in addition to an experimental one scheduled for November this year. "The data is collected for society. It is a census that allows various types of studies for both public and private planning," summarizes Nascimento.
