ENCE: pre-enrollment for course on Big Data and Public Statistics starts in September

Pre-enrollment for the course Big Data and Public Statistics, 2024 class, to be promoted by the National School of Statistical Sciences (ENCE/IBGE) will start on September 16. The course has the objective of presenting and discussing the use of data and alternative methods for the production of statistics based on best practices all around the world. There are a total of 60 vacancies which will be distributed by Major Region, sex and among internal and external participants. The order of enrollment is one of the criteria to select students. Participants must have a higher education degree.
The course, with a total of 45 hours, will start on October 22 and last seven weeks, up to December 5th. It includes remote synchronous activities (classes and debates) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 am to 12 am, and asynchronous activities (reading and research). Professor Andrea Diniz da Silva (ENCE/IBGE) is in charge of the course that will offer theoretical contente and also analyze real-life cases being developed by the academy and national and international bodies. The main topics are:
- What is big data? Concepts, definitions and sources
- Big data and the 2030 Agenda
- Confidentiality and privacy
- Cases use the use of web scraping, satellite images, mobile telephony and other sources and types of big data.
Learning paths
The course Big Data and Public Statistics is part of the learning path Data Science, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (CDBDIA), an ENCE/IBGE project that offers courses within this subject. The first course was Introduction to Data Science, between May and July 2024. The next was Artificial Intelligence in Public Policies, in August and September. Other courses and paths are being planned and will be launched soon.
