In partnership with UFG, the IBGE launches the course “Concepts and applications of the Population Census in public policies”

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) has opened registration for the training course “Concepts and applications of the Population Census in public policies”, for municipal and state managers and technicians. Lasting 30 hours, the course is the second one offered in partnership with the Federal University of Goiás (UFG).
The course will be offered in distance learning format and is the second in a series of distance learning courses aimed at external audiences. It is part of the program Population Census for Public Management, produced in partnership with the Integrated Network Learning Center (CIAR) of the Federal University of Goiás (UFG).
Registration is open until July 31 at the link available here, or at site, or at the website of the National School of Statistical Sciences (ENCE). The course will be available for access from August 7 and participants must finish it by September 6. Course participants who score above 70% will receive a certificate upon completion.
According to Ana Carolina Bertho, ENCE's Coordinator for Training and Improvement, “these courses are self-instructional, which mainly brings two advantages: on one hand, the possibility for students to be able to watch the classes whenever they want, review, redo the modules; on the other hand, the possibility for us to reach a larger audience”.
The purpose of the training is to multiply public statistical information that fosters the debate about the problems, demands and priorities of Brazilian society and to provide a better understanding of the IBGE's activities and research for the establishment of public policies in the country. “This course is part of a program that aims to democratize knowledge about how to use the IBGE data, especially from the Population Census,” explained Ana Carolina Bertho.
There will be 500 places on offer, aimed at managers and technicians in municipal and state public administration (with 40 places reserved for Rio Grande do Sul only), employees of the IBGE network, university community (professors, students and researchers), and members of social movements. If there are more interested parties who are unable to sign up because of lack of vacancies, a waiting list will be created for new classes. The list with the names of those who have registered will be released on August 2 on the ENCE website.
The course “Concepts and applications of the Population Census in public policies” is the second in the “Population Census program for public management”, which will include a total of four 30-hour courses. The first was “The role of the IBGE and the importance of the Population Census”. The other two will be: “Concepts and applications of the Population Census for economic development”, which will be offered in September, and the fourth, “Concepts and applications of the Population Census for sustainable development”, which will be offered in October.
Participants who complete the four courses with a score above 70% will be able to register for the “Workshop for training multipliers: public policy design based on IBGE data”. The workshop will be synchronous and will last 32 hours.
“We had a very good outcome with the first course. We received a lot of positive feedback from the students,” said Coordinator Ana Carolina Bertho.
In addition to this, other training courses will be offered starting in the second half of 2024, with topics related to the areas of Demography, Statistics and Geography.
