Construction costs change by 0.27% in April

In April, the National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi) changed by 0.27%, rising by 0.07 percentage points (pp) in comparison with the previous month (0.20%). In the last 12 months, the rate was 8.05%, below the 9.06% registered in the previous 12 months. In April last year, the index was 1.21%. The data were disclosed today (12) by the IBGE.
The national cost of construction, per square meter, was R$ 1,693.67 in April, with R$ 1,006.82 relative to materials and R$ 686.85 relative to labor force. In the previous month, the cost had been R$ 1,689.13.
The share of materials changed by 0.42%, an increase of 0.35 pp in relation to March (0.07%). With this change, there is a significant increase compared to the stability trend that had been observed in the indices since October last year. Compared to April 2022, there was a decrease of 1.44 pp.
“Materials are not registering highs as big as those of 2020 and 2021 and, as a result, the cumulative indicators are getting closer to pre-pandemic levels”, explains survey manager Augusto Oliveira. In the year, the share of materials accumulates a high of 0.56% and in 12 months, of 6.60%.
“Some items of the material share have been showing smaller rises and others even deflated in some states, as it is the case of steel”, highlights the manager.
On the other hand, labor force (0.05%) fell by 0.35 pp in relation to the previous month (0.40%). Compared to April 2022 (0.24%), there was a decrease of 0.19 pp. With April’s result, labor force accumulates a rise of 1.30% in the year and of 10.21% in 12 months.
Northeast records the highest increase among Regions
Among the Major regions, the Northeast recorded the greatest change in April (0.52%). The Region had a hike in the share of materials in seven of its nine states. Besides, there was influence in the increase of the professional categories in Sergipe, where there was record of the highest increase of the month (2.33%). After the Northeast, the highest change came from the South (0.47%), followed by the Southeast (0.12%). The North (0.07%) and the Central-West (0.03%) were also positive.
