IBGE publicizes Census on Literacy, workshops and IBGEeduca in social project supported by Unidos de Vila Maria samba school in São Paulo (SP)

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) conducted, on Thursday (16), at 7pm, a presentation at Unidos da Vila Maria samba school about the IBGE’s educational-related initiatives and possible partnerships with local social projects. The action is one of the events held to publicize 2022 Population Census - Literacy - Population Results at the headquarters of Unidos de Vila Maria samba school, in the north area of São Paulo, which will take place on Friday (17), at 10 am.

The presentation will be followed by the technical workshop “A territory of information: Potentialities of Data in the 2022 Census,”, from 2 pm to 6 pm. Targeting public administrators and users of information produced by the IBGE, the workshop will teach members of the local community and of public agencies in the north zone of São Paulo capital.

Founded in 1954, Unidas de Vila Maria samba school, is responsible for one of the main social projects supported by samba schools in Brazil, with almost 200 thousand people helped in the Fields of education, health, culture and professional training of youth and residents of that region of São Paulo.

“We are committed with the support to culture, receiving people who work in the segments of education, medical assistance and social balance,”, said the president of the samba school, Adilson José de Souza. “We have a total of 20 different actions, including courses, recreation and professional training, besides healthcare services. We are open every day from 7 m to 10 pm.”

Renata Corrêa, IBGE’s manager for Educational Affairs, explains that “Unidos de Vila Maria samba school has a very comprehensive project in the fields of education, health and culture, and we will present our IBGEeduca (IBGE Teaches), a portal that can be used by students, teachers and anyone who wants to learn more about Brazil. Different types of language are adopted to disseminate the content, according to each target public. This project by Unidos de Vila Maria is an opportunity to offer this service to a different public, and that also reinvigorates us, as we exchange ideas, clear their doubts and see new perspectives. We will speak about IBGEeduca, and also learn from them.”
