The increase of iron ore extraction led to the expansion of industrial output in Pará against the figure recorded a year ago (10.7%), and against the cumulative result in the year (10.5%), according to the Regional Monthly Survey of Industry, released today by the IBGE.

Pará also surpassed the national figure, with a hike of 1.1% in the November 2017/October 2016 comparison. The indicator was positive, and also above the national average, in a total seven of the 14 states surveyed. Industry in the state hit the highest position in its time series, being 36.4% above the average of 2012.

“The results of industrial activity in Paraná are very positive, regardless of the type of comparison”, says André Macedo, manager of the survey. In the comparison with November 2016, the state was second to Goiás, only, which had recorded an increase of 17%.

André explains that the extraction of crude or processed iron ore plays an essential role in the industry structure of Paraná state. “That activity represents about 77% of the local industry and it is mainly boosted by the increase of exports ”.
