The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) was present at the 16th edition of the Federative Caravan, held on December 11 and 12, in Belo Horizonte (MG). The event brought together representatives from 36 ministries and federal offices, to bring the federal government closer to municipalities, offering guidance, services and solutions for local managers.

During the two days, IBGE held 206 consultations, in which participants were able to learn about the Institute's actions and access strategic information for public management. Products and services such as statistical databases, thematic maps, information on population, territory and economy were presented, as well as digital tools that facilitate access to official statistics.

The Federative Caravan is an initiative of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations of the Presidency of the Republic, which seeks to strengthen cooperation between the Union, states and municipalities. In Belo Horizonte, the event featured lectures, workshops and individualized assistance, promoting a space for dialogue and integration.

This is the fourth caravan that the IBGE participated in in 2025. Previous editions took place in Natal (RN), São Luís (MA) and Foz do Iguaçu (PR).

According to Raphael Santos, head of the IBGE Sector of Information Dissemination in Minas Gerais, the Caravan was an opportunity to present technical justifications about the census data and also to publicize the IBGE's strategic projects. He highlighted the interest of managers in IBGE Educa:

“IBGE Educa is a source of pride for the IBGE. It is an incredible project, with materials aimed at children, teenagers and teachers, but which also delights mayors, secretaries and councilors. It has become our flagship at events, because it is beautiful, graphically interesting and works as a gateway to partnerships with city halls.”

The relevance of the IBGE data for public management was also highlighted by Leonardo David Rosa Reis, undersecretary of Health in Santa Luzia, a municipality in the metropolitan area of Belo Horizonte:

“Without data, you cannot make public policy. Planning and executing actions in the dark is one of the biggest challenges. IBGE data are fundamental to understanding the municipal reality and ensuring that public policies reach citizens.”

For Licínio Xavier, environmental advisor at the Minas Gerais Association of Municipalities, the Federative Caravan is a strategic opportunity to strengthen partnerships and boost local development with Minas Gerais municipalities:

“The event is very timely for Minas Gerais. This integration with the IBGE is essential so that we can work with more complete and consistent data, contributing to more effective public policies in municipalities.”

The importance of the event was also highlighted by Juliana Puttini, representative of the Public Consortium for Integrated Management (CPGI), which serves eight municipalities in Minas Gerais:

“It is very interesting to learn about the new proposals and also what the IBGE presented on education, with materials aimed at teachers and children. This information helps to improve our knowledge and bring improvements to municipalities.”

The Ministry of Planning and Budget was also present, sharing space with the IBGE. For Felipe Caixeta, deputy secretary of International Affairs and Development at the MPO, the Caravan reinforces the integration between federal offices and local managers:

“We are here to get closer to managers and present the Federal Government’s policies and projects that can help municipalities advance in the development and implementation of public policies.”

Finally, Rúbia Lenza, state superintendent of the IBGE in Minas Gerais, highlighted the strategic role of the event in strengthening institutional relationships:

“The Caravan is a fundamental space to bring together public institutions, civil society and managers. For the IBGE, it is an excellent opportunity to strengthen relationships and meet the demands of municipalities. Our stand has received great demand from mayors and representatives interested in learning about the services and solutions we offer to support public management and territorial planning.”

In addition to customized service, the IBGE released materials such as regional maps, statistical publications and information about the 2022 Population Census, reinforcing its strategic role in producing data for public policies.
