Quarterly Surveys of Livestock - first results: chicken slaughter falls whereas slaughter of cattle and hogs and pigs increases in Q1 of 2022

The first results of animal production in the 1st quarter of 2022 show that the slaughter of chickens fell by 1.8%, that of cattle increased by 4.7% and that of hogs and pigs increased by 7.2% compared to the same period in 2021. Compared to the 4th quarter of 2021, the slaughter of chickens increased by 0.1%, the same change of the slaughter of cattle (0.1%), while the slaughter of hogs pigs increased by 2.0%. The acquisition of milk was 5.88 billion liters, down 10.5% compared to the 1st quarter of 2021 and a reduction of 8.9% against the previous quarter.

The acquisition of leather pieces by tanneries fell by 0.2% compared to the 1st quarter of 2021 and was 1.9% lower than that of the 4th quarter of 2021, totaling 7.08 million whole pieces of rawhide.

963.82 million dozen hen eggs were produced in the first quarter of this year, down 2.3% year-on-year and 2.8% from the previous quarter.

Cattle slaughter rises 4.7% in the year and changes 0.1% compared to the previous quarter

In the 1st quarter of 2022, 6.91 million head of cattle were slaughtered under some type of sanitary inspection service. This amount represented a positive change of 4.7% compared to the 1st quarter of 2021 and an increase of 0.1% compared to the 4th quarter of 2021.

1.82 million tonnes of bovine carcasses were produced in the 1st quarter of 2022, an increase of 5.2% compared to the same quarter of the previous year, but a reduction of 4.5% compared to the 4th quarter of 2021.

Slaughter of hogs and pigs grows 7.2% year-on-year and 2.0% in the quarter

Slaughter of hogs and pigs totaled 13.64 million head in the 1st quarter of 2022, representing an increase of 7.2% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and an increase of 2.0% compared to the 4th quarter of 2021.

Cumulative carcass weight was 1.24 million tonnes in Q1 2022, up 6.7% from Q1 2021 and 1.8% against the preceding quarter.

Chicken slaughter falls 1.8% year-on-year and changes 0.1% in the quarter

In the 1st quarter of 2022, 1.54 billion head of chicken were slaughtered. This result meant a decrease of 1.8% compared to the equivalent quarter of the previous year and an increase of 0.1% compared to the 4th quarter of 2021.

The cumulative weight of carcasses was 3.76 million tonnes in the 1st quarter of 2022. This total meant an increase of 2.4% compared to the 1st quarter of 2021 and an increase of 1.9% compared to the previous quarter.

Milk purchases fall 10.5% year-on-year and 8.9% in the quarter

In the 1st quarter of 2022, the acquisition of raw milk made by establishments that operate under some type of sanitary inspection was 5.88 billion liters. There was a reduction of 10.5% compared to the volume recorded in the 1st quarter of 2021 and a decrease of 8.9% compared to the volume obtained in the previous quarter.

Leather acquisition is 0.2% below the 1st quarter of 2022

The tanneries investigated by the Quarterly Survey of Leather – those that tan at least five thousand whole units of bovine rawhide per year – declared to have received 7.08 million whole pieces of rawhide in the 1st quarter of 2022. This amount represents a reduction of 0.2% compared to that recorded in the 1st quarter of 2021 and a decrease of 1.9% compared to the previous quarter.

Hen egg production drops 2.3% in the year and 2.8% compared to the previous quarter

In the 1st quarter of 2022, the production of hen eggs was 963.82 million dozen.

The result represented a reduction of 2.3% compared to the same period of the previous year and a decrease of 2.8% compared to the 4th quarter of 2021.
