The National Index of Civil Construction (SINAPI), calculated by IBGE in partnership with CAIXA, changed by 0.51% in October, having accelerated by 0.16 percentage points in relation to the September result (0.35%). The current index is higher compared to that in October 2009 (0.33%). The index accumulated in the year was 6.34%, above the 4.93% recorded in the same period in 2009. The change relative to the last twelve months was 7.26%, versus the 7.08% recored in the immediately previous twelve months. 

 

The national cost of construction, by square meter, changed from R$ 757.86 (September) to R$ 761.74 (October), being R$ 430.21 relative to material and R$ 331.53 to manpower. 

 

The component material rose 0.50%, being above the September rate (0.41%). Manpower recorded change of 0.53% versus 0.27% in September. From January to October, the rise of material was 4.26%, more than the 3.41% of the same period last year. In this same period, manpower (9.16%), was also higher than in the period January-October 2009 (7.08%). In the last twelve months, material recorded change of 5.15%, whereas manpower reached 10.14%.

 

Northeast Region was the highlight in October 

 

The highest regional rate in October, severely affected by the changes in salaries in Rio Grande do Norte and Pernambuco, was that of the Northeast (1.21%). The Southeast Region recorded the lowest monthly change (0.23%), close to the figure in the Central West (0.25%). The other rates were 0.31% in the South and 0.50% in the North. 

 

The Central West Region recorded the biggest figures accumulated in the year (8.56%) and in the last 12 months (9.34%). On the other hand, the Southeast had the lowest rate in the year (5.45%) and the South, in the last twelve months (6.27%). 

 

Regional costs by square meter were: R$ 800.24 (Southeast); R$ 774.81 (North); R$ 744.13 (South); R$ 743.29 (Central West) and R$ 715.80 (Northeast).

 

Rio Grande do Norte and Pernambuco recorded the major hikes

 

Rio Grande do Norte (5.03%) and Pernambuco (4.41%), where salary rise resulted mainly from collective agreements, recorded, in October, the biggest increase in rates. 

 

Roraima (0.04%) had the lowest change in the month, following the states of Paraná (0.10%), and Bahia and Minas Gerais, both with 0.13%. 

 

The lowest figures accumulated in the year were: 3.12% (Minas Gerais) and 3.25% (Roraima); in the last twelve months, 3.58% (Roraima) and 5.48% (Rio Grande do Sul).
