National Index of Construction changed by 0.31% in February

The National Cost of Construction, calculated by IBGE in partnership with CAIXA, changed by 0.31% in February, a decrease of 0.12 percentage points in comparison with January (0.43%).

The index accumulated in the year was 0.74%; in the last twelve months, 6.31%.

The national cost by square meter is now R$ 547.14, being R$ 319.85 and R$ 227.29 related to material and manpower, respectively.

In relation to February 2005 (0.65%), the current index decreased by 0.34 percentage points. The indexes accumulated in the year and in the last twelve months were also lower than the rates for equivalent periods last year (1.37% and 11.01%).

Construction material changed by 0.25%; 0.30 percentage points below the January rate (0.55%). The increase of manpower was more representative in February: 0.38% versus 0.27% in January (more 0.11 percentage points).

Concerning the accumulated indexes, material increased 0.80% in the year, considerably below the index for the same period in 2005 (1.45%). In terms of manpower, the accumulated index was 0.65%, also below the 2005 figure (1.27%).

The following changes were observed in the last twelve months: 5.71% (material) and 7.17% (manpower).

Northeast region had the highest index in February

Influenced by the result in Bahia, the Northeast region had the highest hike (0.69%) in February. The North region is in second place, with index of 0.41%. The other regional results, all below the national index (0.31%), were, in decreasing order, 0.22% in the South; 0.18% in the Central West and 0.12% in the Southeast.

As for the rates accumulated in the year, the highest one (1.58%) was also registered in the Northeast region. The South had the lowest result (0.32%). In the last twelve months, the North region had the highest figure for the accumulated index and the Central West region the lowest one (5.44%).

The costs by region were: R$ 584.07 (Southeast); R$ 549.21 (South); R$ 529.81 (North); R$ 519.32 (Central West) and R$ 505.60 (Northeast).

 

Among the states, Bahia had the highest index in February

 

Due to salary readjustments, the state of Bahia had, in February, the highest index (1.90%). Pará also had a very significant result (0.97%), as a consequence of an agreement effected in August, when the readjustment occurred.

Other states had considerably lower indexes: Ceará (0.31%), Sergipe (0.28%), Roraima (0.25%) and Rio Grande do Sul (0.24%). The lowest results were: 0.03% in Rondônia; 0.07% in Amazonas, Rio Grande do Norte, Pernambuco and Rio de Janeiro; 0.09% in Minas Gerais and 0.10 in Paraíba.
