October 07, 2005 09h00 AM | Last Updated: August 23, 2018 01h00 PM

Rise of gasoline accounted for 40% of September’s IPCA

The Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) of September, calculated by IBGE, changed by 0.35% and was above the average of August (0.17%). With this result, the IPCA accumulated in the year was 3.95%, a percentage inferior to that measured in the same period of 2004 (5.94%). In the last twelve months, the index was 6.04%, almost the same rate as that of the immediately previous twelve months (6.02%). In September 2004, the monthly rate was similar to the current one. In order to calculate the index of September, prices collected from August 26 to September 26 (reference), were compared to those in effect from July 28 to August 25 (base).

Gasoline

caused an impact of 0.14 percentage points and accounted for 40% of September’s IPCA. On average, consumers are now paying 3.36% more for a liter of this fuel. The result reflects part of the readjustment of 10% of sale prices in refineries announced by Petrobrás on September 10; it was the first readjustment this year. From January to August, influenced by alcohol, which was 12.0% cheaper, gasoline fell by 0.56%. However, in July (2.05%), August (1.58%) and September (1.41%), alcohol rose due to the readjustment of wholesale prices. The table below shows the results by month and accumulated in the year:
