From December 3 to 5, Bahia will host, in Salvador, the largest event in Latin America aimed at data users and producers.
The conference will take place at the facilities of SENAI Cimatec and the SESI School. Address: 1845 Orlando Gomes Avenue - Piatã.
Registration is free and can be done until December 2 on the Conference website, on the IBGE Portal (https://eventos.ibge.gov.br/conferencia-soberania-nacional/inicio).
There will also be on-site registration during the three days of the event, with entry subject to availability of places per activity.
Bahia at the center of the world
For the first time ever, the IBGE's most important conference — organized since 1968 — will be held outside Rio de Janeiro, at a time when Brazil and the world are undergoing changes in the foundations of innovation.
This resumption is part of a series of transversal actions to reposition the IBGE as a protagonist in the governance of geosciences and statistics, in addition to its interface with the challenges of the State and the private sector in the search for official historical and current information capable of anticipating the future.
In the Digital Age, the center of the debate is data sovereignty and governance, which have the same relevance as petroleum in the Industrial Age.
During the conference, the IBGE proposes as axes the centrality, governance and protection of data produced in Brazil, especially through the National System of Geosciences, Statistics and Data (Singed). The objective is for the country to have greater control over its strategic information, reducing dependence on external processing and strengthening the formulation of public policies. The initiative also seeks to integrate data from different government offices, improve governance, statistical and geoscientific analysis, as well as combating misinformation.
For this debate with society, the IBGE called for the in-person participation of data producers and users from Brazil and abroad. More than a thousand researchers and technicians accepted the challenge of coming to Salvador to support the IBGE proposal for a General Statistical and Geographic Information Plan (PGIEG) for the Development of Brazil in the Digital Age, in the period between 2026 and 2030.
For the president of the IBGE, Marcio Pochmann, holding the conference in Salvador symbolizes a historical milestone for the institution and for Brazil.
"The IBGE Conference for Statistical and Geospatial Planning is essential because it defines, in a participatory manner, the priorities that will guide the production of official data in the next five-year period (2026-2030). This is the moment when the IBGE aligns its actions with the demands of society, data protection requirements, technological advances and the needs of the Brazilian State. By establishing guidelines for quality statistics, digital modernization, strengthening the geospatial base and national and international cooperation, the conference ensures that the country has robust information to guide public policies, reduce inequalities and fulfill global commitments." told Marcio Pochmann.
