In January, National Index of Construction changed by 0.27%

The National Index of Construction, calculated by IBGE in partnership with Caixa Econômica Federal, began the year of 2007 registering change of 0.27%, falling 0.18 percentage points in relation to December (0.45%). The current index fell by 0.16 percentage points

The National Index of Construction, calculated by IBGE in partnership with Caixa Econômica Federal, began the year of 2007 registering change of 0.27%, falling 0.18 percentage points in relation to December (0.45%).  The current index fell by 0.16 percentage points in relation to January 2006 (0.43%), accumulating 4.96% in the last 12 months.

The national cost per square meter changed from R$ 571.00 (in December) to R$ 572.52, being R$ 331.39 relative to material and R$ 241.13 to labor force.  Material changed 0.31%, 0.06 percentage points below the index of December (0.37%).  Labor force, with 0.21% registered deceleration of 0.35 percentage points in relation to the previous month (0.56%).  In the last 12 months, the accumulated indexes were 3.87% (material) and 6.49% (labor force).


Northeast and North with similar changes stood out

The Northeast Region had in January the major index by regions (0.52%), a result influenced by a collective agreement in the state of Maranhão and advanced salaries, of some categories, in Piauí.  The index of the North Region, influenced by the wage readjustment in Tocantins, had the second major change (0.51%).
The other changes by regions were lower than the national index (0.27%): in the Central West (0.24%), in the Southeast and in the South Regions (0.13%).
The Northeast Region registered the highest index accumulated in the last 12 months (6.03%).  For the other regions, the indexes accumulated were the following: North (5.88%), Central West (4.97%), Southeast (4.58%) and South (3.77).
The costs by regions were the following: R$ 610.07 (Southeast); R$ 568.64 (South); R$ 558.68 (North); R$ 544.17 (Central West) and R$ 532.42 (Northeast).


Maranhão and Tocantins registered the major changes in January

Maranhão (2.39%) and Tocantins (1.68%) registered the major monthly changes in January, showing the wage readjustments of the professional categories of construction.  The lowest changes occurred in Santa Catarina (0.01%); Rio de Janeiro (0.04%) and Paraná (0.05%).  The states of Amapá and Acre had the highest indexes accumulated in 12 months: 9.17% and 8.15%, respectively.
