November 24, 2006 10h00 AM | Last Updated: March 16, 2018 12h13 PM

The index is above the October figure (0.29%), mainly due to the rise of food prices. The IPCA-15 accumulated in the year is 2.60% and in the last twelve months, 2.99%.

The hike in November is a consequence of the change in the prices of food products, which rose by 1.35%, significantly more than in October (0.47%). In the period between harvests, meats became 4.23% more expensive, and, together with chicken (13.03% more expensive), represented a contribution of 0.14 percentage points in the index of the month. These items also have also accounted for the main individual contributions to the index: 0.07 points each.

The group food products and beverages, with 1.35%, represented 0.27 percentage points of the index. This means it accounted for 73% of the index this month. Besides meats and chicken, other important items in the expenses of Brazilian families got more expensive over the month. The main highlights are: tomatoes (28.01%), potatoes (6.63%), manioc flour (4.66%), jerky (3,76%), fruits (3.39%), sausages (2,34%) and rice (3.65%). As a consequence of the rise of food products, restaurant meals also changed (0.94%).

Even so, the prices of some food products remain on a falling trend, for example, crystallized sugar (-7.66%), refined sugar (-3.26%), carrots (-9.83%) and pasteurized milk (-1.04%).

Besides, the liter of fuel alcohol (-1.36%) also fell, similarly to used cars (-2.20%), TV, sound and computer appliances (-1.01%) and other products.

The highest result by area was registered in Curitiba (0.97%), where both the liter of gasoline (6.89%) and of fuel alcohol (8.04%) became more expensive, as well as medicines (0.92%). Goiânia had the lowest result (-0.14%).

The prices for the calculation of the IPCA-15 were collected between October 12 and November 13, and compared to those in effect between September 13 and October 11. The IPCA -15 refers to families with monetary income ranging from 1 to 40 minimum salaries. It encompasses the metropolitan areas of Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Recife, São Paulo, Belém, Fortaleza, Salvador and Curitiba, besides Brasília and Goiânia. The same methodology is used to calculate both IPCA and IPCA-15. The difference between the two indexes lies in the period of data collection. The other index, IPCA-E, consists of IPCA-15 accumulated by quarter.
