IBGE, Sudene and MinC open applications for training in data applied to cultural policies

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) promotes, on May 19, 2026, in Recife (PE), the meeting “Data for Public Policies: Culture”, an intiative that gathers managers, technicians, students and professionals interested in the use of evidence for the strengthening of a cultural policy in the Northeast.



The event will take place at the auditorium of the Superintendence for the Development of the Northeast (Sudene), in Boa Viagem, as part of the actions of Casa Brasil IBGE SUDENE. The proposal is to delve into the practical use of official data in territorial planning and in public management of culture, with a focus on quality decision making and expansion of the effectiveness of policies in the sector. A highlight in this agenda is the lecture Cultural Indicators, which will be conducted by Leonardo Athias, IBGE researcher and coordinator of the System of Information and Cultural Indicators. During the meeting, the participants will have the opportunity of knowing an updated overview of indicators produce by the Institute and discuss paths for its strategic use in the formulation, monitoring and assessment of cultural policies.
The participants will also join a workshop on navigation through IBGE databases, with instructions on the use of the available tools. The initiative results from a partnership between IBGE, Sudene and the Ministry of Culture, consolidating a cooperative agenda aimed at regional development by means of data integration, planning and public action. The event aims at differents actors in the cultural segment and in public management to strengthen cooperation networks ans stimulate quality use of statistical information over the territory.
The meeting will be held from 8 am to 5 pm, at the Sudene headquarters (Av. Domingos Ferreira, 1.967, 15º andar, Boa Viagem – Recife/PE), and its target public includes all those engaged or interested in the construction of more effective publicpolicies based on evidence.
