Sylvia Assad, operational coordinator of the Census in the State, explained what makes this operation in the city unique. “Corumbá has a large territorial extension, larger than many states, and extensive livestock farming marks the local economy.”

“We are testing everything that will go to the Census next year,” added her.

Fernando Gallina, deputy head of the SDI, recalled the adventures experienced by the enumerators. “We have a legendary story in which two officials stopped to open the gate and saw a jaguar. In a quick moment they ran away and climbed a tree. They waited two hours for the animal to come out.”

The action is part of a strategic stage of preparation for the national survey, focusing on the evaluation of methodologies, data collection instruments and operational procedures in the field.
