On May 13 and 14, 2026, the IBGE will host the XVI Brazil in Figures Seminar at Casa Brasil IBGE, in the Palácio da Fazenda (Rio de Janeiro). The event will take place from 9 am to 5 pm and is part of the commemorative schedule for the Institute's 90th anniversary.

With 14 thematic panels planned, the seminar aims to create a qualified space for debate on different dimensions of Brazilian reality, addressing social, economic, cultural, territorial, political, and housing aspects, as well as topics such as technological advancement, the environment, education, and others.

The seminar is directly linked to the launch of the 33rd edition of the publication "Brasil em Números/Brazil in Figures," a traditional bilingual (Portuguese and English) IBGE publication, which presents a comprehensive overview of the country's social, demographic, and economic data. For the first time, almost all articles were written by specialists from the institution itself, with only the chapter on the Judiciary written by external partners from the National Council of Justice – CNJ. To illustrate the work, images selected exclusively from the IBGE's archive were used, reinforcing the institutional identity and the credibility of the publication.

According to the president of the IBGE, Marcio Pochmann, “as an expression of excellence in producing a comprehensive and qualified portrait of the social, economic, and demographic reality of the country, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics highlights the publication “Brasil em Números/Brazil in Figures – 2025,” which reaffirms its commitment to public information and national development.”

The Information Retrieval Manager of the IBGE's Center of Information Documentation and Dissemination, Isabela Torres, emphasizes that “the Seminar will be a very special moment for the exchange of knowledge within the institution and for celebrating its 90th anniversary.”

The 2025 edition of the work will be launched on May 4th, at a special event held at the Itamaraty Palace in Brasília (DF). The publication features the participation of 30 authors addressing 23 topics, who produced articles within the scope of their areas of expertise and professional experience. The XVI Brazil in Figures Seminar will also offer remote participation through registration at the IBGE Store in order to reach as much of the interested audience as possible. There will also be a live broadcast via Digital IBGE, on the Institute's official YouTube channel.

The publication "Brasil em Números/Brazil in Figures" will be available online as an e-book in Portuguese and English, as well as in print, establishing itself as one of the main references for researchers, public managers, students, and other readers interested in understanding Brazil through its official data.
