Individual data lies in the basis of the statistics produced by the IBGE, as it allows a clear “radiography” of the country, with people’s and household information collectively presented for the planning of public policies and investments. Although data collection is individual, the IBGE guarantees complete confidentiality and disseminates only aggregated information.
During the Digital Age, these premises have grown in relevance, for the individual data is captured by big techs, with no technical approach, and is used for commercial purposes without any clear rules. In this context, the official aggregated data, which is collective, becomes even more important to fight misinformation and protect a country’s sovereignty.
Based on these premises, the IBGE launches, today, the institutional campaign “My Brazil, Our IBGE”, which, by means of videos and texts, shows the work of the Institute and its connection with data producers and users in a new light, especially in the Digital Age.
When a citizen answers a survey on their level of schooling (my school), they are helping build a survey on education in Brazil (our knowledge).
The campaign is part of the actions for the 90th anniversary of the Institute, on May 29 this year. By 2027, a number of on-site and online activities will take place according to a national and international schedule soon to be released.
“To celebrate its 90th anniversary, the IBGE will launch a series of institutional videos reinforcing our credibility and technical excellence in the production of statistical and geoscientific data that support Brazil’s development. The material is already available on the Institute’s official channels,” says Marcio Pochmann, president of the IBGE.
New multimedia unit
The campaign is the second piece of work in the dissemination promoted by IBGE’s first multimedia unit, which was created after the arrival of new civil servants approved in the CNU, the greatest public examination in IBGE’s recent history. The unit is headquartered in Parada de Lucas, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, one of the oldest IBGE buildings in the capital.
The first dissemination item was the 90th anniversary logo, launched during the regional opening session of the IBGE's 2026 Work Plan.

A special website was created and shows news on the event, the countdown clock, videos and dissemination materials in different formats.

According to the coordinator-general of the Center for Information Documentation and Dissemination/Social Communication Divison (CDDI/CCS), José Daniel Castro, “a new campaign was developed in an organic way following IBGEs top-quality standards, especially traditional elements, using the official logo with the inclusion of innovative elements in the support materials, thus guaranteeing dynamism and more adherence. That is necessary so that audiences can understand the importance of the work of the Institute.” He also recalls the creation of this proposal as part of the IBGE Bureau actions, which bring together all the communication professionals of the Institute.
The IBGE Multimedia Unit team, responsible for the campaign, explain that “the work was born from the internal production of the IBGE and of its commitment to dissemination and public communication to bring society closer to the Institute. It is our intention to reinforce the importance of the official data in the Digital Age based on a dialogue with its history.”

Campaign materials
The new materials will be the basis for a national competition gathering schools, civil servants working for the IBGE, and data producers and users in general.
The objective is to use the Digital Age, and people can also create pieces based on their own realities, showing the diversity of Brazil and of the world.
A Public Notice will be available in March, with information on how to participate.
