With record number of speakers, panels and thematic groups, IBGE carries out in Bahia its biggest Conference of Data Producers and Users

The conference will take place from December 3rd to 5th in Salvador, Bahia, at the SENAI Cimatec and SESI facilities. Address: Av. Orlando Gomes, 1845 – Piatã. Theme: A proposal for a General Plan of Statistical and Geographic Information (PGIEG) for the Development of Brazil in the Digital Age, from 2026 to 2030.
In the final stretch of its campaign, the IBGE is holding its most important conference, which, for the first time, will take place in Bahia, in Salvador. More than 60 authorities have already confirmed their attendance at the opening.
From the last edition in 2024 in Rio de Janeiro to this edition in Salvador, the conference has doubled the number of speakers: from more than 100 to more than 200, bringing together leading personalities from all research areas, from Brazil and abroad. There will also be a record number of participants from IBGE itself, with more than 300 technicians from the presidency, directorates, coordinations, and superintendencies.

As hosts and supporters, the names confirmed are:
Marcio Pochmann, presidentfrom the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics – IBGE; Jerônimo Rodrigues, Governor of the State of Bahia; Carlos Henrique Passos, President of the Federation of Industries of the State of Bahia – FIEB; Walter Pinheiro, Director of Institutional Relations of the Integrated Center for Manufacturing and Technology of the National Service for Industrial Training – CIMATEC.
As partners in the event, the names confirmed are:
Wilson Paes Cardoso, president of the United Municipalities of Bahia – UPB, and Francisco Ferreira Alexandre, head of the Superintendency for the Development of the Northeast – SUDENE.
Internationally, the heads of statistics from the National Institutes of Statistics of Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela have confirmed their attendance, as well as representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The organization is also awaiting confirmation from ministers and the President of the Republic, among other authorities from government bodies (federal, state, and municipal), autonomous agencies, entities, universities, and society in general, from Brazil and abroad.

Organized by IBGE, with support from the Government of the State of Bahia, the Federation of Industries of the State of Bahia (FIEB), Senai Cimatec, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Municipalities of Bahia (UPB), the National Conference of Data Producers and Users (CONFEST/CONFEGE) is in its final 10 days of registration, with half of the activities already booked (panels, thematic groups, and workshops). In addition to the program, the conference has an agenda starting on December 1st and 2nd, with an event focused on the preparation for the pre-test of the next Census of Agriculture, Forestry, and Aquaculture, as well as closed meetings between the IBGE and local, national, and international partners.
The conference will have an official international agenda
The conference will host the Mercosur Specialized Meeting on Statistics (REES), which will be held in Salvador and is part of the official calendar of the Mercosur presidency, currently held by Brazil. The heads of statistics from the National Statistical Offices of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay will be present.
The schedule also includes the Amazon Biome panel, which will bring together representatives from the statistical offices of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela and Brazil.
There will be a special schedule of activities from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
International panels will be translated.
Participation from Brazil and abroad
With more than two thousand confirmed in-person participants, including national and international guests, the conference also features panels, thematic groups, and open workshops—especially activities organized with local partners in the state, focusing on the discussion of strategic issues of interest to Bahia.
Who can participate?
The conference is open to all data producers and users, authorities, public and private managers, researchers, scholars, students, teachers, and society in general.
Opening and Closing Ceremonies
The conference organizers advise that participants wishing to attend the opening and closing ceremonies in person should register.
Registration is required as soon as possible due to limited seats.
For the First Time in Bahia

For the first time, the most important IBGE conference—organized since 1968—will be held outside Rio de Janeiro, at a time when Brazil and the world are undergoing a shift in the foundations of innovation.
This action is part of a series of cross-cutting initiatives towads the repositioning of the IBGE as a leading player in the governance of geosciences and statistics, as well as the interface with the challenges faced by the State and the private sector in the search for official historical, present, and future-oriented information.
