In preparation for this year's National Conference of Data Producers and Users, to be held in Bahia, the president of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Marcio Pochmann, invites the general public to participate in the event.
In a recorded video, he points out that the event will bring together many data producers, as well as professors, students, and participants from abroad, who will discuss the use of data in the Digital Age. "It's a changing era that brings new developments and challenges," he stated.
"The IBGE is preparing to play a leading role, as it has done in this era. To this end, it is defining its planning in a participatory, democratic and transparent way, so that everyone can participate and have a clear understanding of what our surveys will entail, showing the reality of Brazil and the information necessary for better governance of the country. And I count on you!"
This year's edition will take place in the city of Salvador, on December 3 - 5, 2025, at the SENAI Cimatec and SESI facilities, with support from the Federation of Industries of the State of Bahia (FIEB) and Bahia State Government. The theme of the event will be: "A proposed General Plan for Statistical and Geographi Information (PGIEG) for Brazil's Development in the Digital Age, for the period between 2026 and 2023".
The conference aims to present a proposal for a General Plan of Statistical and Geographic Information (PGIEG), mandated by law, which IBGE has not presented to the country since 1974. This plan is fundamental for the strategy and planning of official information.
The discussions encompass the areas of Surveys, Geosciences, Education, Communication, Administration, and Technology.
