The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) releases, on Thursday (14), the Environment and Maps modules of the publication Creating Synergies between the 2030 Agenda and the G20. With the objective of contributing to the discussion of environment and inequalities, topics approached in both agendas, and of promoting the connection between them, the launch will take place at the auditorium of Palácio da Fazenda, in Rio de Janeiro (RJ). The first publication of this series was released on April 9, at Casa G20 in RJ.

The partners of the IBGE in this initiative are the Executive Secretariat of the National Commission for the SDG (CNODS), within the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy, the Secretariat of the Environment and Sustainability, the State Institute of the Environment, bodies linked to the State Government of Rio de Janeiro, besides G20 Brazil and Rio 2030, promoted by the Sustainable Development Authority in the State of Rio de Janeiro.

According to the coordinator of the 2030 Agenda project, Denise Kronemberger, with these publications the IBGE intends to discuss synergies between the 2030 Agenda and the G20, by providing a portrait of conservation and management of the environment in the Group of Twenty (G20) member countries, by means of Sustainable Development Goals 6 – Clean water and sanitation, 14 – Life below water and 15 – Life on Land. “In the Maps module, the SDG indicators are presented as world maps, where G20 countries are also represented as graphs accessible by QR codes.

This year, 2024, when Brazil is chairing the G20, the IBGE has developed a group of initiatives specially prepared in the thematic field of surveys, maps and studies. The new G20 module is one more example of the commitment of the IBGE to Brazil,” said Marcio Pochmann, president of the IBGE.
