In partnership with UFPR,USP and UFF, IBGE extends deadline for abstract submission to the IV SBIDE

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) extended up to August 4 the deadline for abstract submission to the IV Brazilian Symposium of Spatial Data Infrastructure (IV SBIDE). The event, which celebrates the 16th anniversary of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (INDE/NSDI), is promoted by the IBGE in partnership with the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) and with Federal Fluminense University (UFF), and will be held on October 15-18, under the title “Intelligent SDIs for governance and public policies.”
The event will gather producers and users of geospatial data and information from public and private institutions, academia and stakeholders who work or have an interest in Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI). The IV SBIDE aims to bring the latest in spatial data infrastructure tools and technologies, promote the adoption of open standards and interoperability among systems, debate the management and the sharing of spatial data and address issues of privacy, security and access to information.
The abstracts should be submitted via the link available aqui. In this edition, abstracts will be accepted in Portuguese, English or Spanish, with 800 to 1000 words (excluding title, authors, contacts and references) and up to two figures of 300 kb maximum each, or two tables or one figure and one table. The abstracts will be evaluated and may be selected for an oral presentation lasting 15 minutes. The results of the evaluation will be released on September 2nd. Rogério Luiz, manager of the Brazilian Directory of Geospatial Data (DBDG) of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (INDE), emphasizes that the IV SBIDE is a major event for the development and integration of geospatial data in Brazil and provides a place for interaction among researchers, professionals, managers and users of spatial data from different areas, such as cartography, geography, engineering, environmental sciences, among others.
The IV SBIDE aims to introduce, discuss and promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences on technological issues, the state of the art of implementing SDIs, established national and international norms and standards, and instructions for joining the NSDI. The four sub-themes for this edition of the event are: Governance and Integration; Quality, Security and Interoperability; SDIs in action; and Innovation and Technology.
“With the participation of experts, the symposium is an opportunity to exchange knowledge about new technologies, standards and methodologies in Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI). It is expected to strengthen collaboration networks among academic, governmental and private organizations, both national and international”, explained Rogério Luiz, manager of the NSDI's DBDG.
The NSDI is an integrated set of technologies, policies, mechanisms, coordination and monitoring procedures, standards and agreements to facilitate and order the generation, storage, access, sharing, dissemination and use of geospatial data by citizens and public and private organizations, which enables the processing of geoinformation, offering support for the planning, monitoring and evaluation of public policies.
“The IV SBIDE is a key event for the advance of the spatial data infrastructure in Brazil, promoting innovation, collaboration and sustainable development through the use of geoinformation”, concluded Rogério Luiz.
