The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) conducted, this Friday morning (5), the free workshop “Public policies in the digital era: Mastering IBGE data” having an audience of 152 participants, including municipal and state government managers and servants from the IBGE Superintendence in Piauí (SES-PI).

The workshop had the objective of presenting the platforms that make available the access to the surveys produced by the IBGE and prepare participants to use them. Among these platforms are the System of Automatic Retrieval (SIDRA) and the portals: ibge.gov.br, censo2022, Overview, Interactive Geographic Platform (PGI), Cities@ and IBGE Library. The event was streamed online, from 8 am to 12 am, on the channel of the Distance Learning School of the IBGE’s National School of Statistical Sciences (ENCE/IBGE), which gave participants a certificate for the four-hour course that was given by technicians Rodrigo Faria, Vinícius Gomes and Felipe Miguel Marmello from the IBGE’s Center for Information Documentation and Dissemination (CDDI), located in Rio de Janeiro.

According to Leonardo Passos, Superintendent of SES/PI, “the workshop brought to all of us, managers, especially, clear information about the use of the IBGE’s digital platforms. The explanations facilitated the access to the data and statistics that we produce, thus allowing a better use by decision makers in the elaboration and execution of public policies.”

The necessity to give information directly to states and municipalities was the main reason for the creation of this workshop, which was publicly announced during the IBGE’s participation in the Federative Caravan of Piauí, on June 20 and 21, an event that gathered the workshop’s target public of mayors, secretaries, legislators, advisors and assistants in different fields such as: administration, law, health, education, security, agriculture, among others.

During the Caravan, Leonardo Passos spoke to visitors to the IBGE stand about the importance of attending the workshop, and explained that would be a unique opportunity to learn how to handle data, helping in the construction of better oriented and more assertive public actions.
