IBGE concludes participation in the Federative Caravan of Pará

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) concluded, on Friday (6), its participation in the Federative Campaign of Pará, an event held in Belém, capital of the state, which gathered ministries and federal government agencies and mayors, vice-mayors, secretaries, advisors, public administrators and representatives of the 144 municipalities in the state.
Throughout the two days of the event, the IBGE assisted, by means of the IBGE Superintendency if Pará, more than 70 persons. The Minister of Cities, Jader Filho, visited the IBGE stand on the second day of the Caravan, and so did Paulo Rocha, current head of the Superintendency for the Development of the (Sudam), who remarked on the role of the Institute as a generator of fundamental statistical data for what he called “recovery of the Brazilian democratic State”. When greeting the superintendent of the IBGE in Pará, Rony Cordeiro, Paulo Rocha defended the defense of the Institute’s civil servants. “The role of the IBGE is strategic. And that is why I say we need to value the institution itself and also its workers,” said Rocha, who is an ex-federal representative and an ex-senator.
Maria das Graças Matos, mayor of Ipixuna do Pará and vice president of the Association of Municipalities of Araguaia, Tocantins and Carajás – AMATCarajás, visited to stand to clear doubts about data from the Population Census. “There is no doubt the IBGE is extremely important for governmental planning. For that same reason it is an institute we need more and more in our municipalities. Having access to the IBGE here at the Caravan was fantastic. This “face-to-face”, direct talk helped strengthen our ties and clear doubts,” said the representative of AMATCarajás, which gathers 39 municipalities from the South and Southeast of Pará.
Another visitor received by the IBGE on the last day of the Caravan was Francinaldo Rodrigues, Teaching Director of the Municipal Secretariat of Education of São Sebastião da Boa Vista, who went to the stand to ask for population data and ended up knowing more about IBGE – Educa.
Closing session
The 11th edition of the Federative Caravan ended with a cultural parade of Boi Marronzinho, from the neighborhood of Terra Firme, in Belém. The coordinator of the group, Joelson Ataíde, explains this festivity has been a tradition for 31 years and that nowadays they support a literacy project for 25 children and 3 adults. As he learned about the presence of the IBGE, whose data on literacy have been of great help to the work with the community, Joelson decided to gather the participants for a picture with the IBGE team.
The 11th Federative Caravan had more than 2.3 thousand registrations and the participation of 35 ministries, autarchies and Other federal agencies, including two state representatives and four federal ones, besides four ministers. Before Belém, the Federative Caravan passed by Salvador (BA), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Porto Alegre (RS), Palmas (TO), São Luís (MA), Fortaleza (CE), Recife (PE), São Luís (MA), Macapá (AP) and Teresina (PI).
