New IBGE Atlas has maps that place Brazil in the center of the world

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics – IBGE – will release today (April 09), the 9th edition of the Geographic School Atlas. The new edition, besides being an updated version of the printed volume available on the website of the Institute. The new Atlas has innovations in the way the information is presented and maps that place Brazil in the center of the world. Click here to watch the launch event.
On this same occasion a world map , conceived by the IBGE will be launched. It highlights countries that are members of G20 and those that have a Brazilian diplomatic mission, besides basic information about Brazil, such as its population and area, for example. The event will be broadcast live on the IBGE website and all its other media channels.
This release is aligned with this special moment as Brazil is the president of G20, and it is an opportunity to portray Brazil in an unique way before this group of countries and others all over the world.
The IBGE Geographic School Atlas is a publication that traditionally gathers data on climate, vegetation, land use, political and regional Division, demographic characteristics, social indicators, economic space and networks, besides environmental diversity in Brazil and more than 180 countries.

With more than 200 maps, with different approaches including physical, political and other thematic aspects of Brazil and the world, the new edition also includes the quilombola territories and the distribution of quilombolas and indigenous persons, besides having information on land coverage and threatened species.
As in all the other atlases produced by the IBGE, the ninth edition presents the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC, in Portuguese) of the Ministry of Education, and gathers, in one same volume, geographic, cartographic and statistical data, which are essential for the study and analysis of social and political, environmental and economic realities in Brazil and in the world.
Another innovation is a group of QR codes available in the printed version leading to interactive digital graphs, besides videos and links to additional content. User will also have the chance of downloading the file with the printed version and search information by topic and key words.
The president of the IBGE, Marcio Pochmann, explains that with this new edition of the Geographic School Atlas, the Institute expects to "raise interest among young users so they can learn more about our reality and about a diversity of realities that form the current world scenario.”
The printed version can be purchased at the IBGE Virtual Shop and the digital one will be available on the IBGE website (www.ibge.gov.br), at 4 pm.
