IBGE launches website for National Conference of Data Producers and Users

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) launched, last Wednesday (Apr 03), the website for the national Conference of Data Producers and Users - National Sovereignty in Geosciences, Statistics and Data, within the CONFEST/CONFEGE series. The event will gather producers and users of data in the city of Rio de Janeiro (RJ), from July 29 and August 02, 2024, in order to discuss risks and opportunities for Brazil in the digital era.
The website is available at https://eventos.ibge.gov.br/conferencia-soberania-nacional, and has information about the Conference, such as the schedule, discussions, lectures, meeting venues, news, and documents and material produced.
With the theme National Sovereignty in Geosciences, Statistics and Data: risks and opportunities for Brazil in the digital era, the Conference has the objective of assessing the processes of production and dissemination of statistic and geographic information. Participants in the conference will discuss the consolidation of the National System of Geosciences, Statistics and Data (SINGED) through transparent dialogue and with the contribution of data producers and users, centered in three structuring axes: Governance; Technology and Data; and Dissemination and Communication.
First guest
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was the first guest invited to the National Conference of Data Producers and Users - National Sovereignty in Geosciences, Statistics and Data: risks and opportunities for Brazil in the Digital Era. President Lula was invited by the President of the IBGE, Marcio Pochmann, in a meeting at Palácio do Alvorada, on March 21.
Besides president Lula, ministers and authorities from all powers, and technicians, researchers, managers and representatives of private and public companies in Brazil will also be invited. .
Historical conferences
The National Conference of Data Producers and Users - National Sovereignty in Geosciences, Statistics and Data: risks and opportunities for Brazil in the Digital Era is one more edition of the National Conferences of Statistics – CONFEST – and of Geography and Cartography – CONFEGE, as a sequence to the historical nature of those events.
The IBGE conducted the I CONFEST and the I CONFEGE in 1968. The second edition was held simultaneously in 1972. The III CONFEST took place in 1989 but CONFEGE was not held that year. The I Meeting of National Producers and Users of Social, Economic and Territorial Information, which celebrated the IBGE’s 60th anniversary, marked the occasion of the IV CONFEST and the III CONFEGE in 1996.
As one of the initiatives to celebrate its 70th anniversary, the IBGE promoted the II Meeting of National Producers and Users of Social, Economic and Territorial Information, which encompassed the V CONFEST and the IV CONFEGE, held in 2006. Ten years later, in 2016, it was time for the 3rd Meeting of National Producers and Users of Social, Economic and Territorial Information (INFOPLAN).
