Released today (11) by the IBGE, the National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi) changed 0.02% in September, a drop of 0.16 percentage points (p.p.) in relation to August (0.18%). Therefore, the cumulative index over the last 12 months was 2.68%, below the rate of 3.11% recorded in the 12 immediately previous months. The cumulative index in the year registered 2.06%, whereas the monthly index had been 1.65% in September last year.
The national cost of construction, per square meter, which in August closed at R$1,713.52, rose to R$1,713.87 in September, being R$998.17 relative to material and R$715.70, to workforce.
Having recorded 0.36%, the share relative to workforce fell 0.28 percentage points in relation to the August´s index (0.64%). Compared with September 2022, it rose 0.05 percentage points (0.31%). “The drop of 0.28 percentage points in the share relative to workforce was also influenced by a smaller number of collective work agreements over August,” highlights Augusto Oliveira, manager of Sinapi.
Unlike the pandemic period, the maintenance of the downward trend seen in the previous month caused the share of material to show a negative result (-0.22%), standing 0.08 percentage points below the August´s rate (-0.14%). Like January, May, June and August, it was the fifth month to show deflation in the year. Considering the index in September 2022 (0.53%), it dropped 0.75 percentage points.
Alagoas rises 1.78%, the highest rate among states
“With a collective work agreement signed and a rise in the share of material, Alagoas registered the highest rate among the states (1.78%), followed by Amazonas (1.63%), also influenced by adjustments in the professional categories,” pointed out the manager.
North Region registers highest monthly change in September
Having the share of material increased in five out of its seven states and a collective work agreement in Amazonas, the North Region recorded the highest regional change in September (0.49%). The remaining Major Regions recorded the following results: -0.09% (Northeast), -0.03% (Southeast), 0.05% (South) and 0.09% (Central-West).
More about SINAPI
The National System of Costs Survey and Indexes of Construction – SINAPI, a joint production of IBGE and Caixa Econômica Federal – Caixa, aims at producing monthly series of costs for the housing sector, and monthly series of median wages for workforce and median prices for materials, construction machinery and equipment and services for the basic sanitation, infrastructure and housing sectors.
SINAPI statistics are fundamental in investment programming, especially for the public sector. Prices and costs support the preparation, analysis and assessment of budgets, while indices enable the updating of expense values in contracts and budgets.
