The IBGE National School of Statistical Sciences (ENCE), located in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), has registration open until October 15 for the Specialization Course in Environmental Analysis and Territory Management. The selection process will be fully online, but it is expected that the course, starting in March 2022, will have face-to-face classes. Up to 30 places are offered, as stated in the notice, which can be accessed by clicking here. Registration and course tuition are free of charge.

In the first phase, of a qualifying nature, the applicant will need to send a cover letter and curriculum documentation. Unlike last year, there is no need for a teacher recommendation letter.

The result of the first phase will be published on ENCE's website on November 19th, together with the call of the top 45 classified applicants for the second phase, of interviews. They will take place between November 30th and December 3rd. This phase is eliminatory. Selection dates and times will be announced in advance on ENCE's website.

The final result is expected to be published on the ENCE website by December 13th. The pre-enrollment of successful candidates will take place on December 16th and 17th, on the online Academic System. Instructions and access data will be provided by email to those approved and classified.

Ms. Letícia Giannella, head of the course, says that the specialization usually attracts professionals with different interests and from different areas, experiences and backgrounds. "Both recent graduates and professionals who are already in the job market or who are looking to change areas and build strategies in the field of environmental analysis", she says.

With more than 300 people trained over 24 years, the specialization course in Environmental Analysis and Territory Management aims at improving the training of professionals, contributing with a technical, methodological and theoretical base and a critical view of the environmental/territorial planning and management and space production.

With theoretical and applied subjects, the specialization course also offers a methodological contribution aimed at professional and academic practice. The curricular structure explores the basic concepts and fundamental principles of ecology, demography, geography, sustainable development, public policies, environmental legislation, environmental impact analysis, environmental planning and management, land use planning and related topics. "The course, in addition to proposing a deep technical and methodological approach, also contributes to those who want to continue as researchers", says Ms. Giannella, explaining that graduates tend to continue  studying at stricto sensu postgraduate courses (master's and doctoral degrees ) or to go to the professional field, whether in the public or private sector.

The specialization is structured in three quarters, totaling 468 hours, with subjects distributed in three large blocks: Geosciences, Geomatics and Theoretical-Methodological Subjects. The schedule also includes technical visits and field activities, preferably on Saturdays and lasting up to eight hours. However, the course's curricular structure is undergoing a process of reformulation. Thus, it is possible that some changes may occur before the start of classes, including the reduction of the total hours (from 468h/a to 432h/a) and the integration of some subjects.
