The IBGE News Agency resumes its activities today, October 1, 2018. The IBGE Minute program resumes its broadcast in the National Network of Radio. It was possible due to the new redaction of the Normative Ruling no. 1/2018 of the Special Secretariat of Communication of the Presidency of the Republic - Secom, which now allows the broadcast of news contents on websites and social media of the institutions of the Federal Executive Power during the electoral period. Such type of content had been sealed off by that legal instrument.

The News Agency will only publish news related to the release of IBGE surveys until the end of the electoral period next October 28. "We are so careful not to infringe the electoral legislation, even with the possibility of publishing news. Therefore, we decided to restrict the release of data, since two ministerial ordinances regulate the IBGE releases", explains Diana Paula de Souza, IBGE´s Coordinator of Communication.

By the end of August, the IBGE had already resumed its profiles in the social media. The interruption occurred because some issues are not so clear in the Normative Ruling. It was the case of the escalation in the moderation of the commentaries. "At first, we feared to have problems with the moderation in the nocturnal periods and weekends. That is why we decided to interrupt it", clarifies Diana. "Though we noticed that other public institutions have kept their profiles active. We then reported on the contents posted by these institutions and also talked on the experience of other press offices. From then on we concluded that we could resume our activities", completed the Coordinator.
