The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) provided assistance to 1,483 people, gave three workshops, a conference, and launched two new products during the Meeting of New Mayors, held from February 11 to 14 in Brasília (DF). In the Meeting, which gathered more than 25 thousand attendees and 4 thousand municipalities represented throughout the three days, the stand of the IBGE received 530 mayors and hundreds of visitors who were given information and guidance on the main information channels of the Institute, in the fields of both statistics and geosciences.
There was special interest in two special products launched in the Meeting, Meu IBGE (My IBGE) and Panorama das Cidades (Cities Overview). Developed exclusively for the Meeting of New Mayors, Panorama das Cidades (cidades.ibge.gov.br/brasil/panorama-impresso) generates, in real time, customized reports about the municipalities, in PDF format, with indicators produced by the IBGE and other statistical and geoscientific sources, time series, graphs, comparisons with other localities and the history of each municipality.

Meu IBGE (meuibge.ibge.gov.br) is an interactive site that presents information in a light way showing one’s position in the Brazilian population. By informing their age, color or race, municipality of residence and sex, the user can find information like how many people there are in the same age bracket, the percentage of the population of the same color, among other details. Also, one can compare important indicators of municipalities, for example, literacy and access to water and sewage treatment, with those in other locations.
“Both products called the attention of visitors, mayors were very interested in seeing an overview of their municipalities; so many reports were printed that we had to replace printing ink twice. Lines were formed with mayors who wanted to use the two information stands available and a lot of people had doubts cleared about other surveys and products of the IBGE aimed at the municipal reality,”, said Lucas Braga Cunha, census analyst from the IBGE Superintendency in the Federal District, and one of the employees in charge of receiving visitors at the stand.
Gabriel Antonaccio, IBGE Superintendent in the Federal District, says "the experience reinforced the importance of cooperation, partnership and communication between areas for us to reach a positive outcome in our institution."
