Automotive sector contributes to production growth in São Paulo

Driven by the automotive sector, the industrial production in São Paulo grew 14.8% in the comparison between April this year and the same month of 2017, according to the data of the Monthly Survey of Industry (PIM) - Regional Production, released today by the IBGE. The state was one of the 13 places that had a high in this index among the 15 surveyed, while the national rate was 8.9%.
"São Paulo was the main impact on the national index, having been influenced by the automotive sector, especially cars, tractor-trucks and trucks," said research analyst Bernardo Almeida, who explained what motivated the difference between this index and the positive change of 0.3% in the comparison between April and March 2018.
"This indicates a gradual growth in São Paulo. It grows, but then it has a decrease. We cannot say yet that this is a return to the previous levels. This increase of 14.8% is already well above the result of 2017. It was also influenced by the machinery and equipment sector," he adds.
Industry in Rio de Janeiro grows 6% in April compared to March
In the comparison between April and March, the highlight was Rio de Janeiro, which was the main impact on the national index of 0.8%. The state increased its industrial production by 6% in this period.
"Given the growth of the sector in Brazil, we can say that pretroleum products and biofuels influenced this growth in Rio de Janeiro. On the other hand, Pará was the main negative influence, with the mining and quarrying sector, "explains Bernardo.
In the cumulative index in the year, Pará (21.5%) was the main highlight in the comparison with the same period of 2017, as well as São Paulo (7.7%). On the other hand, of the 15 places surveyed, only Minas Gerais (-0.8%) and Espírito Santo (-5.0%) were not positive.
