The IBGE releases today the digital version of 16 Image Maps of the State of Tocantins in the scale of 1:100,000 (1cm = 1000m). The maps are a cartographic representation consisting of a mosaic – process of joining two or more representations in a single image – of ortho-rectified satellite images – procedure to eliminate distortions and produce an image free of errors. The files are available here in PDF format.

The image maps provide a view of the territory, consistent with the representation requirements of this scale, as well as the geographic elements of higher relevance. As a simplified product, its production takes less time compared with the production of a complete topographic sheet, making them quickly available to the society.

The 16 image maps available are part of the '1:100 000 Cartographic Base' project (BC100) and are one of the products planned for the Federation Units. 127 image maps are planned for Tocantins. The set of maps released today corresponds to 13% of the state´s area. The IBGE has already released 99 image maps of Tocantins, corresponding to 78% of its territory.

The image maps were produced from the images of the AVNIR-2 sensor, provided with a 10-meter spatial resolution, and were acquired between 2006 and 2010 (91% of them between 2009 and 2010).
