In February, services sector changes by 0.7% over January's figure

In February, the services sector recorded increase of 0.7% in the volume of services rendered, in comparison with the result of January (seasonally adjusted series), after increase of 0.2% in the same montg (revised) and of 0.6% in December. In the seasonally-adjusted series, versus February 2016, the sector recorded a decrease of 5.1%, after declines of 3.5% (revised) in January and 5.7% in December. With these results, the cumulative rate in the year was -4.3% and, in 12 months, -5.0%.
By activity, in comparison with January 2017 (seasonally-adjusted series), there were increases in the segments of Services rendered to families (0.6%); Transportation, support activities to transportation and mailing (0.5%) and Professional, administrative and complementary services (0.2%). The segments of Information and communication services (-1.5%) and Other services (-0.5%) recorded decreases. The special aggregate of Tourism activities increased by 0.2% in comparison with the previous year.
Nominal revenue changed by 0.2% from January to February (seaonally adjusted series) and, in comparison with the same month in the prevous year, stayed at 0.5%. The cumulative rate in the year was 1.3% and, in 12 months, 0.0%.

In terms of composition of the overall volume rate, in comparison with February 2016, the contributions of these segments were: Professional, administrative and complementary services , with -2.4 percentage points (pp);Transportation, support activities for transportation and mailing , with -1.5 pp; Services rendered to families, with -0.6 pp; Other services, with -0.5 pp and Information and communication services , with -0.1 pp.
Rondônia, Mato Grosso and Acre recorded the biggest increases between January and February
Considering the regional results for the services sector in February versus January (seasonally-adjusted), the biggest increases in terms of volume were those of Rondônia (9.1%), Mato Grosso (8.5%) and Acre (2.5%). The biggest decreases came from Ceará (-9.8%), Espírito Santo (-5.3%) and Pernambuco (-5.2%).
In comparison with February 2016 (series without adjustment), the main increases were those of Piauí (10.0%), Mato Grosso (3.0%) and Acre (0.5%). The main decreases were those of from Tocantins (-25.2%), Amapá (-18.9%) and Rondônia (-18.0%).
Tourism activities: Federal District increases 24.0% between January and February
In terms of the index of tourim activities, among the selected Federation Units, the positive changes versus the results of January were: Federal District (24.0%), São Paulo (5.6%) and Goiás (2.7%). The negative changes were recorded in Pernambuco (-14.7%), Espírito Santo (-6.5%), Bahia (-5.1%), Rio de Janeiro (-3.3%), Ceará (-2.4%), Santa Catarina (-2.3%), Paraná (-2.0%), Rio Grande do Sul (-1.4%) and Minas Gerais (-0.9%).
In comparison with February 2016, the positive changes were: Goiás (16.6%), Santa Catarina (8.0%) and Minas Gerais (3.1%). Negative changes came from Rio de Janeiro (-18.8%), Espírito Santo and Federal District (both with -17.1%), São Paulo (-11.2%), Rio Grande do Sul (-8.1%), Paraná (-5.0%), Pernambuco (-3.1%), Ceará (-2.3%) and Bahia (-1.8%).
