Quarterly Livestock Surveys: slaughter of cattle, hogs and pigs, and chickens grows

The first results of the animal production in the third quarter of 2024 pointed out that cattle slaughter rose 14.8% compared with the same period in 2023 and 3.7% compared with the second quarter of 2024.
Hogs and pigs slaughter increased 1.9% and that of chicken, 2.7% in relation to the same period in 2023. Compared with the second quarter of 2024, slaughter of hogs and pigs grew 2.4%, and that of chickens rose 0.9%. Acquisition of raw milk in the third quarter of 2024 reached 6.28 billion liters, with a decrease of 0.6% in relation to the third quarter of 2023 and an increase of 7.7% against the previous quarter.
Acquisition of rawhide by tanneries rose 15.1% against the third quarter of 2023 and increased 2.6% against the second quarter of 2024, adding up to 10.34 million rawhide pieces.
A total of 1.18 billion dozens of hen eggs were produced in the third quarter of 2024, with increases of 9.0% compared with the same period last year and of 2.0% in relation to the second quarter of 2024.

Cattle slaughter rises 14.8% over the third quarter of 2023
In the third quarter of 2024, 10.33 million cattle head under some sort of sanitary inspection were slaughtered. Compared with the same period a year ago, this figure represented a positive change of 14.8% and, in relation to the second quarter of 2024, of 3.7%.
The production of 2.74 million tonnes of cattle carcasses in the third quarter of 2024 represented an increase of 14.3% in relation to the same quarter in 2023 and of 6.3% in relation to the second quarter of 2024.
Slaughter of hogs and pigs adds up to 14.92 million head in the third quarter of 2024
In the third quarter of 2024, 14.92 million head of hogs and pigs were slaughtered, representing a rise of 1.9% in relation to the same period in 2023 and of 2.4% in relation to the second quarter of 2024.
The cumulative weight of hogs and pigs carcasses was of 1.40 million tonnes in the third quarter of 2024, an increase of 1.7% compared with the third quarter of 2023 and of 4.1% in relation to the second quarter of 2024.
Chicken slaughter increases 2.7% over the same period in 2023
In the third quarter of 2024, 1.62 billion chicken head were slaughtered, accounting for an increase of 2.7% against the same period in 2023 and of 0.9% in relation to the second quarter of 2024.
The cumulative weight of carcasses was of 3.47 million tonnes in the third quarter of 2024. This figure represented increases of 4.7% over the third quarter of 2023 and of 1.1% against the second quarter of 2024.
Milk acquisition rises 7.7% in relation to previous quarter
The acquisition of raw milk by establishments under some kind of sanitary inspection (federal, state or municipal) was of 6.28 billion liters in the third quarter of 2024.
The value corresponded to the reduction of 0.6% in comparison with the volume registered in the third quarter of 2023 and to an increase of 7.7% from the figure in the immediately previous quarter.
Acquisition of leather grows 15.1% in relation to the third quarter of 2023
In the third quarter of 2024, the tanning houses investigated in the Quarterly Survey of Leather reported to have received 10.34 million whole cattle rawhide.
That amount represented an increase of 15.1% compared with that recorded in the third quarter of 2023 and of 2.6% against the second quarter of 2024.
Production of hen eggs hits 1.18 billion dozens
The production of hen eggs added up to 1.18 billion dozen in the third quarter of 2024. That value represented an increase of 9.0% in relation to the same period a year ago and of 2.0% against the second quarter of 2024.
