In March, industry advances in nine of the 15 surveyed places

With the increase of 0.3% in the national industry in March, in the seasonally-adjusted series, nine of the 15 places surveyed by the IBGE had positive rates.

The biggest expansions were registered in São Paulo (8.4%) and Ceará (3.8%).

Mato Grosso (2.8%), Minas Gerais (2.4%), Rio de Janeiro (2.1%), Northeast Region (1.8%), Paraná (0.6%), Amazonas (0.3 %) and Bahia (0.1%) completed the group of places with positive results. On the other hand, Santa Catarina (-3.8%), Pará (-3.3%) and Espírito Santo (-3.0%) presented the sharpest declines.

In relation to the quarterly moving average, seven of the 15 areas surveyed showed negative rates in the quarter ended in March, especially Amazonas (-2.5%), Paraná (-2.1%) and Goiás (-1.9%). In the cumulative result for the year, there was a decrease in nine of the 15 areas surveyed, especially Ceará (-12.8%) and Pará (-12.2%). In the last 12 months, nine of the 15 places surveyed had positive rates in March 2022.

In the increase of 0.3% in industrial output in March, in the seasonally-adjusted series, nine of the 15 places surveyed recorded positive rates. São Paulo (8.4%) and Ceará (3.8%) recorded the biggest increases, and both recorded increases for the second month in a row, with cumulative gains of 9.1% and 10.0%, respectively. Mato Grosso (2.8%), Minas Gerais (2.4%), Rio de Janeiro (2.1%), Northeast Region (1.8%) and Paraná (0.6%) also recorded increases above the national average (0.3%), whereas Amazonas (0.3%) and Bahia (0.1%) completed the group of areas with positive rates in March 2022.

On the other hand, Santa Catarina (-3.8%), Pará (-3.3%) and Espírito Santo (-3.0%) recorded the biggest decreases in the month. Santa Catarina interrupted two consecutive months of increase in production, a period when there was an increase of 3.6%. Pará eliminated part of the advance of 23.2% observed last February. Espírito Santo intensified the decrease observed in the previous month (-0.7%). Pernambuco (-1.1%), Rio Grande do Sul (-0.3%) and Goiás (-0.2%) recorded the other negative rates in March.

The quarterly moving average index for industry fell 0.4% in the quarter ended March against the previous quarter, and interrupted the upward trend observed since November 2021. Seven of the 15 places surveyed recorded negative rates this month, with a highlight to the most significant decreases recorded by Amazonas (-2.5%), Paraná (-2.1%) and Goiás (-1.9%). On the other hand, São Paulo (2.3%), Northeast Region (1.3%) and Minas Gerais (0.7%) accounted for the main advances in March 2022.

Against March 2021, national industry recorded a decrease of 2.1% in March 2022, with negative rates in seven of the 15 places surveyed. It is worth pointing out that March 2022 (22 days) had one business day less than the same month in 2021. In the month, Santa Catarina (-9.8%), Pará (-7.2%) and Amazonas (-4.1%) recorded the main decreases.

The decrease in Santa Catarina resulted, mainly, from the negative performance of the following sectors: machinery and equipment; electrical machinery and apparatuses and textiles. In Pará, the decrease resulted from drops in mining and quarrying industry and basic metals. Amazonas recorded a decrease due to the drop in computer equipment, electronic and optical products and material and equipment.

Pernambuco (-2.9%), Paraná (-2.8%) and Espírito Santo (-2.3%) also recorded more significant negative rates in comparison with the national average (-2.1%), whereas Goiás (-1.9%) completed the group of areas with negative indexes in the month.

Mato Grosso, on the other hand, advanced two digits (22.9%) and the main result, in March 2022, was mainly influenced by the positive behavior of food products and beverages. Bahia (8.6%), Rio de Janeiro (5.4%), Ceará (4.7%), São Paulo (2.9%), Rio Grande do Sul (2.0%), Northeast Region (1.8%) and Minas Gerais (1.5%) accounted for the other positive results this month.

The cumulative index in the year, against the same period 2021, recorded a decrease in nine of the 15 areas surveyed, with a highlight to Ceará (-12.8%) and Pará (-12.2%). Santa Catarina (-8.9%) and Pernambuco (-6.1%) also recorded negative rates below the national average (-4.5%), whereas the Northeast Region (-4.3%), São Paulo (-3.7%), Minas Gerais (-2.7%), Paraná (-2.7%) and Rio de Grande do Sul (-2.3%) completed the group of places with decrease in output cumulative in the year. Mato Gross (25.6%) recorded the most significant increase in the cumulative index in Q1 this year. Rio de Janeiro (3.3%), Bahia (2.3%), Espírito Santo (1.6%), Amazonas (0.5%) and Goiás (0.5%) recorded the other positive rates in the indicator.

Thecumulative index in the last twelve months, having increased 1.8% in March, has kept the pace of increase since August 2021 (7.2%). Nine of the 15 places surveyed recorded positive rates in March 2022, but 11 of them had lower dynamisc against February. Santa Catarina (from 7.2% to 3.5%), Amazonas (from 8.9% to 6.5%), Paraná from 7,5% to 5.8%), Rio Grande do Sul (from 6.5% to 5.0%), Pará (from -6.1% to -7.1%), São Paulo (from 3.0% to 2.1%) and Minas Gerais (from 7.9% to 7.0%) recorded the main losses between February and March 2022, whereas Bahia (from -10.3% to -8.2%), Mato Grosso (from 5.2% para 7,0%) e Rio de Janeiro (de -5,3% to 6.2%) accounted for the main increases between the two periods.
