The IBGE publishes today the values of the 2021 per capita household income for Brazil and Federation Units, calculated based on the Continuous National Household Sample Survey - Continuous PNAD.

This release complies with Complementary Law 143/2013, which establishes the new apportionment criteria for the State and Federal District Sharing Revenue Fund - FPE and, as a result, the commitments made regarding the definition of the amounts to be transferred to the Brazilian Court of Audit - TCU to calculate the factors representing the inverse of per capita household income.

The per capita household income was calculated as the ratio between total household income (in nominal terms) and total residents. In this calculation, income from work and other sources are considered. All residents are considered in the calculation, including those classified as pensioners, domestic servants and relatives of domestic servants. The values were obtained from actual gross earnings from work and other sources, in the reference month of the survey, accruing information from the fifth visits of the Continuous PNAD made in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters of 2021.

The Continuous PNAD is a household, sample survey, carried out by the IBGE since January 2012, which monitors quarterly fluctuations and the evolution of the workforce, among other information necessary for the study of the country's socioeconomic development.

Since March 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the collection of the Continuous PNAD, traditionally carried out in person in selected households, has been carried out by telephone. As of June 2021, face-to-face fieldwork was reintroduced, both for collecting telephone numbers and information from residents. Thus, the 2021 surveys included telephone and face-to-face interviews.
