Industry grows in ten places in December and closes 2021 with highs in nine of the 15 places surveyed

With national industry high of 2.9%, from November to December, in the seasonally-adjusted series, ten of the 15 places surveyed by the IBGE had positive rates. The biggest rises were registered in Amazonas (14.0%), Goiás (8.8%) and Paraná (7.6%).
In 2021, the industrial production grew in nine out of 15 areas, with a highlight to Santa Catarina (10.3%), Minas Gerais (9.8%), Paraná (9.0%) and Rio Grande do Sul (8.8%). In the moving average of the quarter ended in December, there was increase in 11 of the 15 places surveyed over the quarter ended in November. In the comparison with December 2020, there were drops in 10 of the 15 places surveyed.

In the seasonally-adjusted series, from November to December 2021, ten of the 15 places surveyed showed positive rates, with a highlight to intense expansions made by Amazonas (14.0%), Goiás (8.8%) and Paraná (7.6%), all of them offsetting previous month’s losses of -2.1%, -1.6 and -0.2%, respectively. Mato Grosso (4.6%), Espírito Santo (4.6%), São Paulo (3.8%) and Minas Gerais (3.4%) also recorded highest advances than the national average (2.9%), whereas Rio de Janeiro (2.0%), Bahia (2.0%) and Northeast Region (1.0%) close the set of places with positive indexes in December 2021.
On the other hand, Santa Catarina (-2.7%) and Rio Grande do Sul (-2.1%) indicated the sharpest drops this month with the former eliminating part of the 5.1% advance recorded last November; and the latter interrupting four months in a row of production growth, a period when it accumulated a gain of 7.1%. Pará (-1.7%) and Ceará (-1.0%) recorded the negative rates in December 2021; whereas Pernambuco (0.0%) remained unchanged and stood at the same level as the previous month.
In the cumulative index in 2021, against the same period in the previous year, the expansion noticed in the national output reached nine out of 15 places surveyed, with a highlight to Santa Catarina (10.3%), Minas Gerais (9.8%), Paraná (9.0%) and Rio Grande do Sul (8.8%).
Amazonas (6.4%), São Paulo (5.2%), Espírito Santo (4.9%) and Rio de Janeiro (4.0%) also registered higher positive rates than the national average (3.9%), whereas Ceará (3.9%) closes the set of places that reported production advance in the cumulative index in the year.
On the other hand, Bahia (-13.2%) recorded the most significant decrease in the cumulative index of the year. Northeast Region (-6.2%), Goiás (-4.0%), Pará (-3.7%), Mato Grosso (-1.0%) and Pernambuco (-0.4%) recorded the other negative decreases in the cumulative indicator in the period January-December 2021.
The quarterly moving average in the quarter ended in December 2021 was 0.8% against the quarter ended in November. In regional terms, 11 of the 15 places recorded positive rates this month, with a highlight ti the sharpest advances by Mato Grosso (8.2%), Amazonas (4.1%), Paraná (2.8%), Goiás (2.4%), Northeast Region (1.2%) and São Paulo (1.1%).
On the other hand, Santa Catarina (-1.0%), Pará (-0.9%) and Ceará (-0.4) recorded the drops of December 2021.
In comparison with December 2020, the industrial sector dropped 5.0% in December 2021, with negative rates in nine of the 15 areas surveyed. It is worth mentioning that December 2021 (23 days) had one more business day than the same month in the prior year.
Ceará (-20.9%), Northeast Region (-10.9%), Bahia (-10.5%) and Santa Catarina (-10.1%) registered the most intense two-digit retreats. Pará (-8.9%) and São Paulo (-5.6%) also recorded more intense negative rates than the national average (-5.0%), whereas Pernambuco (-4.6%), Rio Grande do Sul (-4.1%), Espírito Santo (-1.0%) and Minas Gerais (-0.3%) were the other places with negative indexes this month. On the other hand, the industry of Mato Grosso grew 23.1%, the highest rate among the sates in this comparison for December 2021. Next came Goiás (8.3%), Rio de Janeiro (6.5%), Amazonas (2.3%) and Paraná (2.2%).
