In September, Industry decreases in nine of the 15 places surveyed

With the reduction of 0.4% in the national industrial output from August to September 2021, in the seasonally adjusted series, nine of the 15 places surveyed recorded negative rates.

The sharpest drops were in Ceará (-4.4%) and Amazonas (-4.0%). Conversely, the greatest advances were in Pernambuco (3.9%), Bahia (3.7%) and Northeast Region (3.5%).

Over September 2020, there were decreases in 11 of the 15 places surveyed.

The sharpest drops were in the Northeast Region (-13.7%), Amazonas (-13.5%), Bahia (-13.3%) and Ceará (-12.3%).

The quarterly moving average retreated in 11 of the 15 places surveyed with the sharpest decreases in Amazonas (-4.0%), Minas Gerais (-1.3%), São Paulo (-1.2%), Ceará (-1.2%), Mato Grosso (-1.0%) and Goiás (-0.8%). The advances were in Bahia (2.3%), Paraná (1.5%) and Pará (1.5%).

The cumulative index in the year was positive in ten of the 15 areas surveyed, with a highlight to Santa Catarina (18.1%), Minas Gerais (14.2%) and Paraná (13.3%). In terms of the cumulative index in the last 12 months, ten of the 15 areas recorded positive rates.

In the seasonally adjusted series, nine of the 15 places surveyed showed negative rates. The losses were sharper in Ceará (-4.4%), increasing the fall of last August (-0.5%), and Amazonas (-4.0%), which eliminated part of the increase of 6.8% seen in the previous month.

Goiás (-2.3%), Mato Grosso (-2.2%), São Paulo (-1.0%), Pará (-0.6%) and Santa Catarina (-0.5%) also registered sharper decreases than the national average (-0.4%), while Paraná (-0.4%) and Minas Gerais (-0.2%) completed the set of places with negative results.

On the other hand, Pernambuco (3.9%), Bahia (3.7%) and the Northeast Region (3.5%) showed the highest expansions in this month, after a fall in production last August: -5.3%, -2.6% and -5.9%, respectively. Rio de Janeiro (0.9%), Rio Grande do Sul (0.7%) and Espírito Santo (0.2%) had the other positive rates in September 2021.

The quarterly moving average was 0.7% in the quarter ended in September 2021 compared to the level of the previous month and kept the downward trend started in January 2021.

In regional terms, 11 of the 15 areas surveyed had negative rates, with the sharpest declines in Amazonas (-4.0%), Minas Gerais (-1.3%), São Paulo (-1.2%), Ceará ( -1.2%), Mato Grosso (-1.0%) and Goiás (-0.8%). On the other hand, Bahia (2.3%), Paraná (1.5%) and Pará (1.5%) registered increases in September 2021.

In relation to September 2020, there was a decrease of 3.9%, with drops in 11 of the 15 places surveyed. Both months of September had the same number of working days (21).

Northeast Region (-13.7%), Amazonas (-13.5%), Bahia (-13.3%) and Ceará (-12.3%) registered the most intense declines. Mato Grosso (-8.3%), Goiás (-8.2%), Pará (-7.9%), Pernambuco (-5.8%), São Paulo (-5.6%) and Rio Grande do South (-4.4%) also registered negative rates below the national average (-3.9%), while Espírito Santo (-0.2%) completed the set of places with negative rates in the month.

On the other hand, Rio de Janeiro (5.3%) and Minas Gerais (5.0%) had the greatest advances in September 2021.

In the year 2021 (January-September), compared to the same period of the previous year, the expansion of the national production reached 10 of the 15 places surveyed, especially Santa Catarina (18.1%), Minas Gerais (14, 2%) and Paraná (13.3%).

Rio Grande do Sul (12.7%), Amazonas (12.6%), Ceará (11.9%), São Paulo (9.9%) and Espírito Santo (8.5%) also registered sharper positive rates than the national average (7.5%), while Rio de Janeiro (3.6%) and Pernambuco (2.0%) completed the set of places with an increase in production in the cumulative index of the year.

On the other hand, Bahia (-13.4%) had a more intense decline in the cumulative result for the year. Mato Grosso (-5.0%), Northeast Region (-4.4%), Goiás (-4.4%) and Pará (-2.3%) also showed negative rates in the cumulative indicator in the period January-September of 2021.

In the quarterly comparison, the third quarter of 2021, by retreating 1.1%, interrupted the positive behavior present since the last quarter of 2020 (3.4%), all comparisons against the same period of the previous year.

The loss of dynamism observed in the total industrial production from the second (22.7%) to the third quarter of 2021 (-1.1%) was explained by the slowdown observed in all fifteen surveyed places, with emphasis on Amazonas (from 71.2% to -7.8%), Ceará (from 62.4% to -7.2%), Rio Grande do Sul (from 30.6% to -0.8%), Santa Catarina (from 36.2% to 5.2%), Espírito Santo (from 32.5% to 3.7%), São Paulo (from 27.3% to -1.2%), Pernambuco (from 14.4 % to -9.0%), Minas Gerais (from 29.0% to 6.7%), Northeast Region (from 9.6% to -12.8%) and Paraná (from 25.8% to 5. 8%).

The cumulative index in the last twelve months, increasing by 6.4% in September 2021, reduced the intensity of the growth observed in last August (7.2%) and interrupted the predominantly upward trend started in August 2020 (-5.7% ). In regional terms, 10 of the 15 areas surveyed registered positive rates in September 2021, but 12 showed less dynamism compared to last August's indexes.

Amazonas (from 14.5% to 11.4%), Ceará (from 13.4% to 11.1%), Northeast Region (from -0.9% to -2.5%), Pará (from 0.5% 1% to -1.4%), Goiás (from -3.2% to -4.7%), Pernambuco (from 5.1% to 3.9%), Rio Grande do Sul (from 13.0% to 11.9%), Bahia (from -9.2% to -10.3%) and São Paulo (from 9.8% to 8.7%) showed the main losses between August and September 2021. On the other hand, Espírito Santo (from 4.3% to 5.5%), Rio de Janeiro (from 0.6% to 1.0%) and Minas Gerais (from 12.3% to 12.5%) showed the gains between the two periods.
