Volume of services increases by 1.1% in July

In July 2021, volume of services in Brazil increased by 1.1% from June, in the seasonally adjusted series, with a cumulative increase of 5.8% in the last four months. The services sector was 3.9% above the February rate and hit its peak since March 2016. As for the non-adjusted series, against july 2020, the secor grew by 17.8%, fifth positive rate in a row. The cumulative figure in the year is 10.7% and, in 12 months, 2.9%, on an upward trend since February 2021.

The increase of 1.1% fromJune to July 2021 was observed in two of the five activities surveyed: services rendered to families (3.8%), with a cumulative increase of 38.4% between April and July and professional, administrative and complementary services (0.6%), with an increase of 4.3% in the last three months. With negative results came information and communication services (-0.4%); transportation, support services to transportation and mailing (-0.2%). and other services (-0.5%).

The quarterly moving average advanced 1.6% in the quarter ended in July 2021 against the level of the previous month, keeping the upward trend that started in July 2020.

All the five activities recorded positive results in the month in the seasonally-adjusted series: services rendered to families (7.1%), transportation (1.8%), professional, administrative and complementary services (1.4%), other services (1.0%) and information and communication (0.6%).

In July 2021, the volume of services increased by 17.8% against July 2020, in the non-adjusted series, fifth positive rate in a row, with increases in all five activities and in 75.9% of the 166 types of services investigated.

Among the sectors, that of transportation, support services for transportation and mailing (21.0%) accounted for the major positive contribution on the total volume of services, leveraged by the increase in the revenue of the enterprises of road transportation of cargo, air transportation of passengers, port and terminal management, road transportation of passengers, maritime and port support airport; and shipping agency activities.

Advance in the sector of information and communication services (11.3%) was due to the increase in the revenue in the segments of portals, content providers and Internet search engines; broadcast TV activities; technical support, maintenance and other services in information technology; other telecommunications activities; and data processing, application services providers; Internet hosting services and consulting in information technology.

Increases in services rendered to families nos (76.3%) resulted from the contributions of hotels: restaurants; catering services; physical conditioning activities; and thematic and amusement parks.

Increase of the sector of professional, administrative and complementary services (14.1%) was due to engineering services; legal activities; technical activities related to architecture and engineering; car rental; and general cleaning.

Advance in other services (10.8%) was due to revenue increments in fund adminsitration by contract or commission; recovery of pastic material; security brokers; and management of domestic, rain or industrial sewage systems.

Compared with the same period in 2020, the cumulative index in the year amounted to 10.7%, with positive rates in five dissemination activities and an increase of 68.1% of the 166 types of services surveyed.

Among the sectors, that of transportation, support services to transportation and mailing (15.70%) and information and communication (8.9%) accounted for the major positive contribution to the total volume of services, mainly due to the increase in the revenue of enterprises in the segments of road transportation of cargo, management of ports and terminals; air transportation of passengers; maritime and port support airport navigation; airport operation; railway cargo transportation; and pipeline transportation, in the former sector. In the latter: portals, Internet providers and other online information services; developing and licensing of software; other telecommunication activities; and broadcast television activities.

Other advances were registered by professional, administrative and complementary services (6.7%), other services (9.7%) and services rendered to families (10.9%). In the first one, due to the revenue from engineering services; technical activities related to architecture and engineering; legal activities; car rental; hiring of temporary workforce; and charging and registration activities. In the second: recovery of plastic material; security brokers; fund administration by contract or commission; administration of stock market or over the counter operations; support activities to forestry. In the tird sector, hotels; restaurants and funeral and related activities.

Services grew in 15 of 27 Federation Units

Volume of services increased in 15 of the 27 Federation Units in July 2021, against the previous month. The most relevant decreases were those of São Paulo (1.4%), followed by Rio Grande do Sul (3.4%), Minas Gerais (1.2%), Pernambuco (4.1%) and Paraná (1.5%). On the other hand, Rio de janeiro (-4.4%) recorded the main decrease.

Against July 2020, the expansion of services in Brazil was observed in 26 of the 27 Fedration Units.The major positive impact was registered in São Paulo (11.0%), followed by Minas Gerais (16.3%), Rio de Janeiro (7.7%) and Santa Catarina (17.7%).

The cumulative index in the year, against the same period in 2020, recorded increases in all the Federation Units.

Index of tourism activities advances 0.5% in June

In July 2021, the tourism activity index rose 0.5% against the previous month, with a cumulative increase of 42.2%. However, it should be highlighted that the segment of tourism should grow 32.7% before it reaches the level of February 2020.

Eight of the 12 Federation Units surveyed recorded increases as well. The most relevant positive contributions were those of Pernambuco (9.5%), followed by Santa Catarina (9.4%), Bahia (6.1%) and Rio de Janeiro (2.1%).

Against July 2020, the inde of tourism activity in Brazil rose 83.0%, fourth positive rate, mainly due to the rise in the revenue of enterprises that work in the segment of hotels; air transportation; restaurants; road transportation of passengers; car rental and catering services.

All the 12 Federation Units in which the indicator is measured registered an advance in tourism services, with a highlight to São Paulo (55.9%), followed by Rio de Janeiro (56.3%), Bahia (271.7%), Minas Gerais (94.3%), Rio Grande do Sul (150.7%) and Pernambuco (144.8%).

In the cumulative index in the year, the special aggregate for tourism activities rose 13.1% against the same period last year, influenced, above all, by expansion in the sectors of air transportation, hotels and restaurants and car rental.

All the 12 areas surveyed also recorded positive rates, among which stand out: Rio de Janeiro (12.3%), followed by Bahia (33.2%), Minas Gerais (17.0%), Pernambuco (31.9%), Goiás (38.7%) and Rio Grande do Sul (25.0%).
