*Seasonally-Adjusted Seriesl

In the seasonally adjusted series, seven of the fifteen areas surveyed had negative rates. A highlight is the double-digit loss in Amazonas (-14.4%), which eliminated part of the 18.6% growth accumulated in the period March-June of 2021. São Paulo (-2.9%), Minas Gerais (-2.6%), Pará (-2.0%), Rio Grande do Sul (-1.7%), Santa Catarina (-1.5 %) and Rio de Janeiro (-1.4%) completed the set of places with a decline in production this month.

On the other hand, Bahia (6.7%) had the biggest increase in July, after increasing 13.0% last June, when it interrupted six consecutive months of fall in production, a period in which it accumulated a loss of 34.8%. Espírito Santo (3.7%), Northeast Region (3.4%), Paraná (3.3%), Pernambuco (2.5%), Ceará (1.5%), Mato Grosso (1.1%) and Goiás (0.8%) had the other positive results in July 2021.

The quarterly moving average had a negative change (0.1%) in the quarter ended in July 2021 compared to the level of the previous month. Six of the fifteen areas surveyed had negative rates this month, with highlights for the sharpest decreases registered by Pará (-3.4%), Amazonas (-2.5%), Paraná (-1.8%) and Santa Catarina ( -1.0%).

On the other hand, Bahia (6.1%), Ceará (3.6%), Northeast Region (2.6%), Espírito Santo (1.3%), Goiás (1.1%) and Rio de Janeiro (1.0%) recorded the main advances in July 2021.

In comparison with July 2020, the national industrial sector grew 1.2% in July 2021, with seven of the fifteen surveyed places showing positive rates. This month, Espírito Santo (9.4%), Minas Gerais (8.6%), Paraná (8.2%) and Santa Catarina (7.8%) registered the sharpest expansions. Rio de Janeiro (2.8%), Rio Grande do Sul (2.4%) and São Paulo (1.3%) close the set of places with positive indexes this month.

On the other hand, Bahia (-12.2%), Pará (-10.9%) and the Northeast Region (-9.6%) showed the most intense declines in July 2021. Pernambuco (-8.6%), Amazonas (-8.1%), Ceará (-3.2%), Mato Grosso (-3.1%) and Goiás (-3.0%) also had negative rates in the month.

In this comparison, it is worth mentioning that July 2021 (22 days) had one less business day than the same month in the previous year (23). It should also be noted that this month, there were high positive results, influenced, to a great extent, by the low basis of comparison, since in July last year, the industrial sector was pressured by the long interruptions that occurred in several industrial plants, especially due to social isolation measures against the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the cumulative index of 2021 (January-July), compared to the same period of the previous year, the expansion in the national production (11.0%) reached ten of the fifteen places surveyed, with a highlight to Santa Catarina (23.1%), Ceará (20.9%) and Amazonas (20.8%). Rio Grande do Sul (17.8%), Minas Gerais (17.2%), Paraná (16.2%) and São Paulo (14.7%) also registered sharper positive rates than the national average (11, 0%), while Espírito Santo (11.0%), Pernambuco (5.9%) and Rio de Janeiro (3.9%) were the areas with an increase in production in the cumulative index of the year.

On the other hand, Bahia (-14.9%) showed the most intense decline in the cumulative index of the year. Mato Grosso (-5.0%), Goiás (-3.8%), Northeast Region (-1.4%) and Pará (-0.5%) also showed negative rates in the cumulative indicator in January-July of 2021.

The cumulative index in the last 12 months, increasing by 7.0% in July 2021, intensified last June's growth (6.6%) and kept the predominantly upward trend started in August 2020 (-5.7%). In regional terms, 12 of the 15 places surveyed registered positive rates in July 2021 and eight pointed to greater dynamism compared to last June's indexes.

Espírito Santo (from 0.6% to 2.6%), Paraná (from 9.8% to 11.5%), Santa Catarina (from 15.0% to 16.3%), Rio Grande do Sul (from 11.9% to 12.9%), Minas Gerais (from 11.0% to 11.8%) and São Paulo (from 8.7% to 9.2%) showed the main gains between June and July 2021 , while Pernambuco (from 9.3% to 7.1%), Amazonas (from 16.4% to 14.9%), Goiás (from -1.5% to -2.4%), Northeast Region (from 1.4% to 0.6%) and Ceará (from 15.2% to 14.6%) showed the highest losses between the two periods.
