June 09, 2021 09h00 AM | Last Updated: June 10, 2021 05h57 PM

The National Civil Construction Index (Sinapi) was 1.78% in May, 0.09 percentage points below the rate of April (1.87%).

Rates increased in all regions, especially in the Southeast (2.07%), due to the increase in the share of materials.

The cumulative index in the year was 8.71% and, in the last twelve months, 18.18%. In May 2020 the index had been 0.17%.

The national cost of construction, per square meter, rose from R$ 1,363.41 in April to R$ 1,387.73 in May, with R$ 810.08 relating to materials and R$ 577.65 to labor force.

The share of materials rose 2.66%, a change 0.48 percentage points lower than in the previous month (3.14%). In relation to May 2020, (0.19%), there was an increase of 2.47 percentage points.

The share of laborforce rose 0.58%, up 0.40 percentage points compared to April (0.18%) and 0.44 percentage points compared to May of the previous year (0.14% ). This increase was driven by the collective bargaining agreements executed in Rio de Janeiro and in the Federal District. In the year, the cumulative increases were 14.03% (materials) and 2.04% (labor force). In twelve months, the cumulative result reached 31.58% (materials) and 3.44% (labor force).
