Quarterly Livestock Surveys – First Results: slaughter of hogs and pigs up, of cattle and chicken down in Q2 2020.

The first results of animal farming in the 2nd quarter of 2020 show that the slaughter of hogs and pigs increased 5.9% in relation to the same quarter of 2019, while that of cattle fell 9.7% and that of chickens fell 1.6%, in same comparison.
In the comparison with the 1st quarter of this year, there was also a reduction in the slaughter of cattle, of 1.2%, and of chickens, with a rate of 7.2%, while that of pigs grew 1.6%.
The acquisition of milk was 5.69 billion liters, a number that points to a drop of 2.9% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2019 and a reduction of 9.7% compared to the 1st quarter of 2020.
The surveyed tanneries reported having received 7.25 million leather pieces in the 2nd quarter of 2020, which means a 13.7% retraction compared to the 2nd quarter of 2019 and a 3.6% reduction compared to the previous quarter. 2020.
In the second quarter of 2020, the production of hen eggs increased by 1.9% compared to the same quarter of 2019 and showed stability compared to the first quarter of 2020, totaling 965.41 million dozens.
Cattle slaughter falls 9.7% compared to 2019
In the 2nd quarter of 2020, the survey shows that 7.17 million cattle head were slaughtered under some type of health inspection service. There was a decrease of 9.7% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2019 and 1.2% compared to the 1st quarter of 2020.
The production of bovine carcasses was 1.85 million metric tons, a decrease of 6.6% in relation to the same quarter of the previous year and an increase of 0.5% in relation to the 1st quarter of 2020.
Slaughter of hogs and pigs grows in both comparisons
The slaughter of hogs and pigs totaled 12.07 million head in the 2nd quarter of 2020, an increase of 5.9% in relation to the same quarter of 2019 and of 1.6% compared to the 1st quarter of 2020.
The cumulative weight of carcasses registered 1.10 million metric tons, an increase of 8.2% in relation to the 2nd quarter of 2019 and of 3.2% in comparison with the previous quarter.
Chicken slaughter decreases 7.2% in relation to the previous quarter
In the 2nd semester of 2020, 1.40 billion chicken head were slaughtered, a reduction of 1.6% in relation to the same quarter of 2019 and a decrease of 7.2% compared to the 1st quarter of 2020.
The cumulative weight of the carcasses was 3.21 million metric tons, a drop of 4.0% in relation to the 2nd quarter of 2019 and a reduction of 7.7% compared to the previous quarter.
Acquisition of milk drops to 5.69 billion liters
The acquisition of raw milk, made by establishments that operate under some type of federal, state or municipal health inspection, was 5.69 billion liters in the 2nd quarter of 2020. The figure shows a 2.9% reduction compared to 2nd quarter of 2019 and decrease of 9.7% compared to the 1st quarter of 2020.
Acquisition of leather falls in both comparisons
The tanneries reported having received 7.25 million whole pieces of rawhide in the 2nd quarter of 2020. This amount represents a 13.7% drop compared to the 2nd quarter of 2019 and a 3.6% reduction compared to the 1st quarter 2020. It is worth noticing that the tanneries investigated by the Quarterly Survey of Leather are those that tan at least 5,000 whole units of raw cowhide per year.
Production of hen eggs grows 1.9% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2019
The production of hen eggs was 965.41 million dozens in the second quarter of 2020, an increase of 1.9% in relation to the same quarter of 2019 and stability compared to the production of the first quarter of 2020.
