The rate fell against the preceding week (by 8.6% or 7.0 million workers) and also against the first week of the survey, from May 3 to 9 (19.8%).

PNAD COVID19 estimated at 81.8 million persons the employed population in the country between the 12th and 18th of July, with stability against the preceding week (81.1 million persons) and a decrease against May 3 to 9 (83.9 million persons).

The employed population not away from work was estimated at 72.5 million persons, with an  increase against the preceding week (71.0 million) and also against May 3 to 9 (63.9 million). Among those, 8.2 million persons (or 11.3%) were working remotely. That figure leveled off versus the preceding week (8.2 million or 11.6%) and, in absolute figures, it against May 3 to 9 (8.6 million), but with a percentage decrease of 3.4% against that same week (13.4%).

The employed-population ratio was 48.0%, virtually unchanged against the preceding week (47.6%) and recording a decrease against May 3 to 9 (49.4%).

The informality rate hit 32.5%, having fallen in comparison with against the week before (34.0%) and May 3 to 9 (35.7%).

About 6.2 million (7.5% of the employed population) were away from work due to social distancing. That figure fell against the preceding week (by 7.0 million or 8.6% of the employed population) and versus May 3 to 9 (by 16.6 million or 19.8% of the employed persons).

The unemployed population was estimated at 12.4 million persons, being stable against the previous week (12.2 million), but with a hike against May 3 to 9 (9.8 million). As a result, the unemployment rate was 13.1%, the same as in the week  before (13.1%) and way above the figure in the first week of May (10.5%).

The rate of participation in the workforce was 55.2%, statistically unchanged since the preceding week (54.8%) and against the first week of May (55.2%).

The population out of the workforce (persons not working or searching for work) hit 76.2 million, being leveled off versus the preceding week (76.9 million) and May 3 to 9 (76.9 million). In that group, about 28.0 million persons (or 36.7% of the population out of the workforce) said they would like to work. The figure was stable against the preceding week (28.3 million or 36.7%) and increased against May 3 to 9 (27.1 million or 35.5%).

About 18.6 million persons out of the workforce who would like to work but did not search for work did not do it due to the pandemic or because they did not find a position in their locality of residence. Those persons amounted to 66.4% of the non-employed ones who did not search for work but would like to work. The figure remained stable against the preceding week (19.2 million or 68.0%), and against May 3 to 9 (19.1 million or 70.7%).

3.3 million persons with flu-like syndrome sought medical assistance at a health establishment

PNAD COVID19 estimated that, between June 12 and 18, 13.8 million persons (or 6.5% of the population in the country) had at least one of the 12 flu-like symptoms investigated by the survey (fever, cough, a sore throat, difficulty to breathe, a headache, pain in the chest, nausea, a runny or stuffy nose, fatigue, pain in the eyes, loss of smell or taste and muscular pain). That figure was statistically unchanged against the preceding week (13.9 million or 6.6% of the population) and fell against May 3 to 9 (26.8 million or 12.7%).

Approximately 3.3 million persons (or 23.7% of those reporting any symptoms) sought medical assistance at a health establishment (community healthcare units, family health teams, UPAs, SUS medical centers or hospitals, or even private ambulatories care/offices, medical centers or hospitals) That number was stable against the preceding week (3.0% million or 21.5%) and fell in absolute figures (with an increase in percent figures, though) in comparison with results of May 3 to 9 (3.7 million or 13.7%). About 85% of those occurrences were at public health establishments.

Between July 12 and 18, 302 thousand persons (9.3% of those reporting symptoms) who had flu-like symptoms sought medical assistance at private or military ambulatories care/offices. That means stability in comparison with both the preceding week (315 thousand or 10.6%) and the first week of May (320 thousand or 8.7%).

About 912 thousand persons sought medical assistance at a public hospital, private or military hospital in the week between July 12 or 18, that is, 6.6% of those reporting symptoms. That figure was leveled off against the preceding week (914 thousand persons or 6.6%) and against May 3 to 9 (1.1 million or 4.0%). Among those seeking medical assistance, 135 thousand (14.8%) were hospitalized. In such cases, there was also stability against the previous week (124 thousand or 13.6%) and against May 3 to 9 (97 thousand or 91.%).
