National Index of Civil Construction grows 0.44% in August

The National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi) grew 0.44% in August, falling 0.24 percentage points (pp) below July (0.68%). In August 2018, the index was 0.36%.
Sinapi accumulated increases of 3.11% in the year and 4.50% in 12 months, keeping the level of the preceding 12 months (4.42%).
The national cost of construction per square meter, which in July closed at R$1,143.65, went to R$1,148.65 in August, of which R$ 602.23 were related to materials and R$546.42 to labor force.
The share of materials grew 0.72%, rising 0.25 p.p. in relation to July (0.47%) and 0.15 p.p. compared to August 2018 (0.57%).
The labor force rate increased 0.13%, remaining 0.79 p.p. lower than in July (0.92%). In August 2018, the change was also 0.13%.
In the cumulative of the year, the material index remained at 3.96% and the labor force index, at 2.22%. In 12 months, the cumulative rates were 6.24% (materials) and 2.68% (labor force).
South Region leads rising
The South Region had the highest increase in August (1.51%) due to collective bargaining in Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. The other Regions recorded 0.14% (North), 0.37% (Northeast), 0.01% (Southeast) and 1.23% (Central-West).
The regional costs per square meter, were R$1,147.70 (North), R$1,064.19 (Northeast), R$1,196.65 (Southeast), R$1,148.91 (Central-West).
Santa Catarina boosts
Santa Catarina (2.59%) was the state with the highest change, with the increase of professional categories costs due adjustments provided in collective agreements. Also under the influence of collective bargaining were Rio Grande do Sul (2.37%), Goiás (2.21%), Ceará (1.60%) and the Federal District (1.55%).
