Quarterly livestock surveys – first results: cattle, pigs and hogs, and chicken slaughter rise in annual comparison

Cattle slaughter rose 4.1%, pigs and hogs slaughter increased 5.1% and that of chicken rose 3.6% in the second quarter of 2019, compared with the same quarter of 2018. Compared with the first quarter of 2019, cattle slaughter rose 2.4% and that of pigs and hogs increased 0.7%, whereas chicken slaughter retracted 1.5%. Milk acquisition was of 5.86 billion liters, an increase of 7.1% in the annual comparison and a reduction of 5.4% compared with the immediately previous quarter. The acquisition of raw hide pieces by tanning houses rose 1.0% against the second quarter of 2018 and dropped 1.1% over the first quarter of 2019, adding up to 8.39 million whole cattle raw hides. 930.93 million dozens of hen eggs were produced in the second quarter of 2019, an increase of 5.8% in the annual comparison and of 2.0% in the quarterly comparison. Cattle slaughter increased 4.1% in the annual comparison
8.08 million cattle head were slaughtered in the second quarter of 2019, registering an increase of 2.4% over the immediately previous quarter and of 4.1% over the second quarter of 2018.
The production of 2.01 million tonnes of cattle carcasses in the second quarter of 2019 increased 3.6% in relation to the first quarter of 2019 and 5.5% over the same period in 2018.
Hogs and pigs slaughter adds up to 11.39 million head
In the second quarter of 2019, 11.39 million head of hogs and pigs were slaughtered, representing an increase of 0.7% over the immediately previous quarter and of 5.1% in relation to the same period in 2018.
The cumulative weight of the carcasses reached 1.02 million tonnes in the second quarter of 2019, representing a rise of 2.5% over the immediately previous quarter and of 4.3% over the same period in 2018.
Chicken slaughter falls 1.5% over previous quarter
In the second quarter of 2019, 1.43 billion chicken head were slaughtered, representing a decrease of 1.5% over the immediately previous quarter and an increase of 3.6% over the same period in 2018.
The cumulative weight of carcasses was of 3.35 million tonnes in the second quarter of 2019. It represented a drop of 1.0% over the immediately previous quarter and an increase of 0.4% against the same period in 2018.
Milk acquisition rises 7.1% in relation to previous year
In the second quarter of 2019, the acquisition of raw milk by establishments under some kind of sanitary inspection (either federal, state or municipal) was of 5.86 billion liters. It corresponded to a retraction of 5.4% compared with the volume registered in the first quarter of 2019 and to an increase of 7.1% in relation to the amount collected in the same period in 2018.
Leather acquisition drops 1.1% over previous quarter
The tanning houses investigated in the Leather Quarterly Survey – those that carry out the tanning of at least 5,000 whole pieces of cattle raw hide per year – reported to have received 8.39 million whole cattle raw hides in the second quarter of 2019. That volume was 1.1% lower than the one recorded in the immediately previous quarter and 1.0% higher than the one posted in the second quarter of 2019.
Production of eggs rises 5.8% in annual comparison
The production of hen eggs was of 930.93 million dozens in the second quarter of 2019. It represented an increase of 2.0% in relation to the first quarter of 2019 and of 5.8% compared with the production in the same quarter last year.
