*seasonally-adjust series

In the seasonally-adjusted series, the evolution of the quarterly moving average index fell 0.1% in May against April and maintained the downward trend started in January 2019. Among the sectors, transportation, support activities for transportation and mailing (-0.3%) registered the only negative rate, thus maintaining the behavior started in November 2018. The increases came from the sectors of services rendered to families (0.8%), other services (0.6%), professional, administrative and complementary services (0.4%) and information and communication services (0.3%).

Having advanced in all of the five activities and in 56.6% of the 166 types of services surveyed, volume of services grew 4.8% in relation to May 2018. Among the activities, the sectors of transportation, support activities for transportation and mailing (5.7%) and information and communication services (4.7%) exerted the most relevant positive contributions this month, leveraged, to a great extent, by the increase in the revenue of the enterprises of road cargo transportation, in the former sector, and of web portals, content providers and other information services in the Internet, information technology consulting and development and licensing of customizable computer programs, in the latter. It is worth highlighting that the good performance of the segment of land transportation (10.1%) was directly linked with the truckers´ strike in May 2018, inasmuch as the interruption of the flow of goods in the Brazilian highways caused important losses of revenue in the enterprises that carry out freights.

The other advances were in other services (8.7%), services rendered to families (6.4%) and professional, administrative and complementary services (1.8%).

In the cumulative index in the year, over the same period in the previous year, the services sector increased 1.4%, with an expansion in three out of the five activities and in 51.2% of the 166 types of services surveyed. Among the sectors, information and communication services (3.4%) exerted the major positive impact, leveraged, to a great extent, by the increase in the revenue of the enterprises in the segments of web portals, content providers and other information services in the Internet, of development and licensing of customizable computer programs and of information technology consulting.

The other advances came from services rendered to families (4.7%) and other services (3.9%). On the other hand, the negative influences came from the segments of transportation, support activities for transportation and mailing (-0.9%) and of professional, administrative and complementary services (-0.2%).
